They have just recently opened a Sci-Fi City store near me and I stop there sometimes during the week on the way home from work. They have a large section setup just for gaming. There are all kinds of stryofoam painted models for I guess roleplaying figures to move around on and some earth based boards for miitary games and every now and then you can stop in and catch a game going on but I have yet to see a game of B5 going on. the owner says there used to be a group that had an entire campaign going on for about 6 months but it ended and they haven't started anything else up yet. I would love to try and develop somekind of computer based board game around B5WARS.
Would anybody be interested in trying to develop something like this??

I would love to see the results of such a mod and would help if such a project got going but you would need to gather a few people and see how moddable the game is first. If you are serious about such a project then let me know!

Have you looked at my reply in this thread referencing the game "Harpoon4". Look at the links I places in it and tell me what you think. This engine will have all power and backup one would need to run a highly complex game like B5WARS or FLEET ACTION. If you do not know anything about "Harpoon4" it is one of the most involved board games that you are likely to ever play. It could take days sometimes to finish out a scenario. Look at the content that is being included for the PC version of the game. They have taken all of the board game perameters and installed them in a PC game. Check out the links and tell me what you think.

While we're on the subject of making online versions of classic startegy games, why not throw Battletech and Heavy Gear into the mix? Battletech is a lot of fun, but seems like it was simplified in all the wrong places sometyimes (Weapons do constant damage, etc.)

Though I've never gotten a chance to play heavy gear, I've also read info on the game mechanics, and it sounds like a more complex, though better, battletech. It also seems more.... balanced. In battletech, the game balance went down the toilet when you wanted to have a battle between a small, agile mech, and a walking battleship.

The game's rules invariably favored the larger mech. And effective use of infantry was out of the question.

As I suggested, I think that it could be done and in principle would be a great mod. I would be willing to help such a project, but someone needs to look at what would be involved to produce such a mod in terms of what modifications need to be made, what can't be done with the engine, how many man hours would be required (i.e. the scale of the project) and what would actually be desired from the game - do you want a faithful recreation of the show (my personal choice - to an extent), of the game (if so, which one) or more balance between races (playability).

I have never played the game Harpoon 4, so I don't have much idea of the game but the links show a lot of potential for a mod.

How serious are you about such a mod?

Youngun's. I played Harpoon 1. When it was new.

Point being, Harpoon 4 looks like a great engine for highly complicated board games, except automated (e.g. computerized) and much easier to keep track of what's going on.

Oh and play Heavy Gear 2, if you play the series. I heard the original was pretty bad.

the original heavy gear was basically a clone of the mechwarrior 2 game engine. the story was okay, but it really wasn't that impressive. Heavy gear 2 was pretty good, but they could have made it better. The game should have been labeled with a spoiler warning, and pretty much screwed over my idea for a campaign.

Other than that, it was more true to the rp system. something which the mechwarrior games have yet to acheive, and with microsoft in control now, we know no future mechwarrior games will be anywhere NEAR canon.

i have seen an adress for it and have been there.

I got the adress on the web-board here. just ask for where you can find B5 wars. I asked for a B5 game and gat B5 wars. A crappy online game where you shoot at battlecrabs in a thunderbolt and actually kill them, and TBP.

It would have been hard for you to play Harpoon4 since it is not out yet. it is scheduled to be out int beginning of March but the release date has been getting moved back for over 2 years now. It is not going to be one of those games that is getting thrown out before it's ready just to jusify company quotas. Because of the hardcore complexity and higher level of people that will be involved with playing this game they are making sure that this one is done right.
"WARNING: This game can produce extreme levels of stress on the mentally challenged."
We will not be able to look at its engine for consideration for a B5 strategy mod until its release. I just wanted people that would seriously consider working on this to start looking at the "Harpoon4" engine as a consideration.
