Umm....to differ from the previous post. B5: LOTR was not Power Rangers (most likely a reference to one disappointing gunnery pod scene - among a number of good scenes) in any way shape or form.

I don't even get the "they also resorted to using old ST ships as well".

Not ALL of the CGI was lost either. Some of it was actually recovered from Sierra who still had the high res CGI models on hand when they got copies for B5: ITF (NOTE: NOT the game models, the proper CGI). The problem was that not all of it was there and some missing some of the refinements from later on.

Sorry, about 95 percent was. How's that? Go read what the devs said they requested and what they actually got. Afew ships and stations.

Damn near most of what was B5 is gone forever unless they take the time or budget to remake it all. Completely unbelievable.

As for the Gunnery Pod or as I say, the PowerRangers Pod, that was the lamest, most disapointingly sad laugh out loud part in ANY movie I have seen. HEEEEEEEYYYAAAAAAH! Trash.

As for the Star Trek reference, if that Valen doesn't look like a gimped out Romulan Scout ripoff I don't know what to say to you, though I'm glad they threw the nose of an Omega on it.

Like I said, these parts were almost unforgivable and I hope that if the series goes to production that they dump that gun pod crap. It makes absolutely NO sense to do it. This pilot was a good way to judge how people like the show, and what they don't like. This is a good time to tell JMS to bury that gunpod crap.

They lost ALL of it, 5 years of work all gone. Why those damn terrorists, I bet if they hadn't crashed into the pentagon or World Trade centre (British spelling), the CGI would still be all there. OH, and by the way, football, or what you call "soccer", IS better that American football, as most of the world likes football. And next time you call a sports game something, make sure it makes sense. Eg football - because you play it with your foot, American Football - because you ......erh...uhm....you play it with your hands, and a bit of your foot......wait, that doesn't make sense, dhol.

There's a pessimistic view.

I can't find the post on FirstOnes, but a number of models were recovered...not all, not the best high-res ones...but a decent number.

The actual scene setups are totally gone tho. I think thats what really hit hard.

I really didn't mind the gunnery pod scenes except for the last one. They probably could've done without the Xena: Warrior Princess in the 23rd Century stuff.

Football is a better name for our European version of football. Since our game involves almost exclusively the use of ball and feet. Football is a daft name for the American version of football for precisely the opposite reason. Whilst Soccer is a daft name Americans give our sport so that they can give their own sport an even dafter name.

Association football is the full title for "European" football. Over time the association got shortened to "assoc" and ultimately soccer by Americans. Soccer is not a derogatory term, it is just used to discriminate between association football and American football (shortened to football due to its common usage).

quote:
The term soccer is used in North America to distinguish what is in Britain called (Association) football or soccer from American football. - The Oxford English Dictionary

Besides, we aren't the only people on earth who call our sport football. I grew up in australia. Ever play aussie rules football, mate?

And we also are not the only people on earth to call your sport soccer. So if you could PLEASE not turn this into a USA vs. the rest of the world thing, then we can all live in peace...

As to those terrorists... I sort of share Vir's opinion. When they catch Bin Laden, they should place his head on a pike (atop the rebuilt twin towers) as a warning to the next ten generations that screwing with the americans comes with too high a price.

May Bin Laden rest in pieces.

And let's not get onto a Bin Laden debate - we all have our own opinions, with a lot of difference in them from one extreme to the other.

I suppose there is some saving grace that they managed to recover some of the CGI work, and given time can rebuild their database of ships, etc.

BTW, as two different CG companies worked on B5 CGI, why didn't both have backups of their files (or were even the backups transferred with the change of contract)?

Triggy, thank you. I'd rather somebody else says it as opposed to me . Remember, B5 forum != soapbox.

As for the CGI work, I haven't heard anything about it ... I'm not sure everybody knows where everything is, at this point.

they should do a Red Dwarf.

(IIRC, when the special effects footage for series 7 of Red Dwarf was destroyed with only a day or 2 left before it had to all be done, they managed to get a fan-made Starbug model and did a few quickly rendered flybys, thus explaining why series 7 has such poor effects, but I digress.)

Some fan built B5 models are pretty damn incredible.

so the idea would be to make a season of the "Hand-Interstellar Alliance" war if the movie gets a high rating?

Wow!

It isn't canon, but who cares when it looks THAT good.

Not sure....it'd probably be great for ratings. I think one thing is for sure, if it goes to series, The Hand will have a part to play here and there. The question is what will they do and how big a part will they play.

And by the second half of a theoretical Season 2, the Drakh will attack Earth. So we've got that going on too.
