A lot of people say it's in Beta Aquilae do to that's where BETAC was signed. But BETAC was only one treaty that formed the GTVA, though an important one. (much like the Geneva Convention is one treaty that makes international law, but the United Nations is in New York, not in Geneva )

Delta Serpentis is the most logical capital for the Terrans in the GTVA, since it would have the highest population.

As for the Vasudans, it's debatable wether or not they're on Vasuda Prime, or a nearby system like Alpha Centuari or Antares.

Yes, thats all fine and good except that there is a debriefing somewhere that says Beta Aquilae is the GTVA Capital.

Delta Serpentis is probably the Terran capital (like a state or province capital) and Aldebarran is most definately the Vasudans.

Well i hope BWO can retain the gameplay and possibly have more sensible fleet deployments, but i suppose i can dig the normal V way of things where either the fighterbays get knocked out or the fleet is currently occupied fighting giant pies.

We have a little of both. I tend to want to use groups of capital ships rather than just one so be happy. Or affraid, very affraid

Well i'd say a bit of both is the best way. You let the pilot be a major part of the action, while being able to enjoy all the capships and their addition to the fighting. Often balancing between the two creates the best gameplay while making the story believable.

Prove it I don't remember any place in FS2 where it stated that, and I've gone over it rather recently.

Well good sir, I do point you at Debriefing wav SM109_DB_05.wav. About half way through the leader of the Suicide Kings mentions the Capital at Beta Aquilae and the Security Council.

Yays! I wasn't too sure if it was mentioned or not, but that suicide kings guy's voice is so annoying that I skip over that chunk (Another reason why not to have cheesy voiceovers in BWO!)

That one debriefing is the only place where I can find factual information about the GTVA's capitol. It's understandable that a lot of people overlook this rather inmportant fact; it's tucked away in a rather obscure mission debriefing that you'll probably only hear if you're a really sucky pilot.

BTW, Beta Aquilae was where the GTA and PVN made their stand against the Shivans in 2335 (the Bastion's CO states that it is the one system they were able to hold against the enemy advance in a Command Briefing in the original FS1). Naturally it would have some significance to the GTVA, be it simply strategic, cultural, or historical.

Strategic mostly. It has three jump points and is what, two jumps from Vasuda, two from Earth and one from Delta Serpentis.

They held the Comm Terminal. Thats about it

The point is if you have more intelligent fleet deployment, the enemy will have to use more intelligent attack tactics, rather then waves and waves of bombers.

such as deploying a cruiser out of beam range, luring off a portion of the fighter and cruiser screen, then deploying the destroyer nearby to attack the undefended portion of the cap ship in question.

or alternitively just have the battle groups trade blows as in ww2, but with the smaller ships running interference and defense. Im sure battles like this would be more exciting (having not seen one done ever though i dont know) with 2 destroyers opening up on each other with their accompnying cruisers attempting to block fire, intercept bombers and destroy each other.

GTD [G]'s will probably form the core firepower of the new GTVA Battlegroups.

Ok, I'm thinking of the provisional government set up for the GTA after the destruction of the Lucifer.

A mission in Twilight was just this, a Hecate and an Hatshepsut trading fire with the support fleet they could call in.

I was always dissapointed in never seeing the real fighter cover any Destroyer could throw out in FS2 dispite what is stated plot-wise, so it was a fun mission to script out.

Back to BWO now

Performance issues? *shrugs*

I suppose you could do it with lots of reinforcement wings.

I once had a wing of Diemos corvettes that I could call in as reinforcement. However I took it a bit too far and now the game crashes because I am bringing in too many units.

If you have a good Pc, then just try it.... I just posted screenshots of a mission i made with about 80 fighter/bombers engaging all at once - fantastic fun, if you have the computer to pull it off - a lot like the intro FS2 cutscene.

http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/Forum20/HTML/000015.html

(image heavy thread)

Of course, it pretty much reduces the player to a bit part in the mission - I only scored 3-4 kills - unless you script and plan it well. The most interesting thing is the massive effectiveness of Helios laden bombers (in this case the Gagana - a new ship - but applicable to any heavy bomber) against enemy destroyers.

I think I had 2 cruisers each with a load of flak and 1 TerSlash, yet with the bombers they took down 2 Molochs and a Demon - without sustaining heavy losses.
