Alphakiller, it's easy for you to say to buy GeForce 2 Ti because it's probably a lot cheaper where you live. Everything is way too expensive in Finland.

Anyway, I'm going to buy next summer a whole new graphics card, newest of the newest (that's probably like GeForce 4-5 or Radeon 9500?) and I need this card only as a temporary solution.

I am not going waste money too much now because Christmas is almost at hand and I have to buy presents at some point for my family. This leaves me only two choices... to buy a ATI Radeon 7200 or Hercules 3D Prophet II Titanium 64M. (GeForce 2 Ti). I'm going to give my blown up 3D card to my relative that he can fix it (can fix chipsets and stuff like that, a genious if I may say) and I will sell it after he has fixed it.

Hercules costs about 1077 mk (about >163$) and Radeon 7200 607 mk (about >91$). Tough choice, but I think I'll stick with 7200 choice. Want to buy Legacy of Kain : Soul Reaver 2 and Stargåte DVD and stuff like that.

And then there is Gainward's GeForce 2 MX-400 which costs a bit more than Radeon 7200 but could be more faster too... don't know...

I got my Radion 8500 for $190.00 and I havent had any complaints yet. Infact my new computer is benchmarking faster than a 2nd Gen SGI Octane!

You know the test in 3Dmark 2001 with all the bump mapped trees and the tall grass blowing in the wind, and the deformative river running by into a reflective bumpmapped lake? I got 45 fps in that test!!!

I do so love to brag...

Yeah but a GF3 kills the Radeon in one of the other 3D2001 tests.

Not to mention I think 3D Mark is useless. Real world performance is where it's at; if it works for you in games and 3D apps, good. If it doesn't, regardless of 3D Mark scores, bad.

AARGH! $190.00 for Radeon 8500! I would sell my soul to get one of those babies here on Finland. Guess that I gotta order that from US. Through relatives of course, otherwise it comes through the customs and then it costs somewhere about $570.00

Buying it from some hardware shop it is about $450.00.

You guys are overlooking something...The Raedeaon 8500 is in theory faster than G-force3 it has some new tech that will better than just adding perfomance by brute force.
The only problem ist that those fools at ATI hasted that boards launch when theire still triyng to make it work right...these coments that This borad is slower than G3 are totaly untrue, ATI has some rabits up their sleeve but the pathetic driver set is castrating its perfomance, it doesnt even use make use of its new features, untill a decent driver arrives it will lag behind Nvideas flagship, but not too far away I have to say.

However I still prefer G3 reliability is what I want not some fancy board that only shows only on paper, remeber the Savage 2000 fiasco.

Yeah, I'm all for ATi getting awesome performance out of the Radeon line. No, seriously.

Something's gotta make those guys at nVidia drop the price on those GF3 Ti500s

I am all too aware of the rabbits that ATI have up their sleeves:

That all seems pretty dodgy stuff. Not the fact that they wrote program specific codes for Quake 3 but the fact that they did not disclose this to the public/reviewers and did not give gamers a chance to disable the feature. Overall I think that the GeForce line is better but, Radeon is cheaper.

BTW does anyone have a good site for competative British prices of video cards?

Well, considering the massive drag factor caused by my motherboard and the rest of my hardware, I think the Geforce 2 MX is quite good.
