Wink No such thing as an American Accent

There is a different accent for each region of the U.S.

Let's get some Texans, Georgians, Bostoners in there too.

About CTA: That's what I found very interesting. Didn't he even say something like: "This is Captain ... of the Russian Federation."

The Russian accent was also in the german synchro version. That made it more realistic when thinking about a united Earth... Nice idea!

Question: Which accents in the release 1 were made to fit the ship names and which voices had the accent simply because of the speaker? I'm asking because I know some Germans and Danish with almost perfect English while often the Germans that talk in public have a strong accent. However, I think the Spanish and French have much more difficulties about pronunciating english than the Germans and Danish... How comes?

@Haderak: Ah, you answered while I was typing... That's exactly what I meant. Didn't remember it that well. And I only saw the german version...

starfuries dont have jump engines, but in FreeSpace2, all fighters HAVE to. So they had no choice

thats why they use their BRILLIANT FRED2 talents to FORCE you to be inside the jumpgate before you can jump and it appears t be a jump-gate's jump point

P.S> bad joke indeed pera -.-

yup i know they are very good at what they have done, i wasnt saying that they arent
see my previous post about it

btw you dont have to be in a jumpgate to activate your engines
i did it within 5m of the yorktown (i failed the mission like, but i wondered if you could)
i was only making a statement about star furies.

my only problem is that for some reason the transparent textures aren't transparent. I switched them all to black so they aren't as obtrusive, but it's still a bit annoying.

Personally, I got a real kick out of Modeth's and Lissa's recordings. Modeth had one especially well spoken line in mission 3. Good stuff!

Here's my little niggle.. in the briefings, when I click on one of the ship icons, the 3d ship view that pops up doesn't match the ship it should be. Gah!

.....Also just tried to finish mission 2, and it refused to let me jump out at the end, as if though the jump-drive enable tag hadn't set itself correctly or something. Going to try it again...

well..i was speaking in general...

swedish ppl are on the whole MUCH better at english compared to german or french....i think it's because of the dubbing in germany and....do you have almost everything dubbed in france too?

I Just finished playing it, very good work guys! My only problem with the mod is that it slows down while regular freespace would harldy ever, i remember the good old days when my p2 400 with 320 megs of ram was a powerhouse.

Just to let you know...
If you guys ever want to put some Chinese in mod,
I'll gladly do the job....

If you want to put someone with Asian accent in the mod...
cough.... you guys might as well fake it... cause I really
don't have much of an accent.

I guess when your mother language doesn't use spelling,
It's hard to have an accent when you learn a spelling language.

I don't think it's a problem of dubbed movies and series...

In general, and that's most irritating, in every country whose mother language isn't English, there are people you can't distinguish from native speakers while there are others you can hardly understand because of the accent... Btw, I'm not talking about syntax or something like that. Even people who write perfect English can have big problems in pronunciation. Is this genetically preprogrammed or what? Or are those people simply to lazy to learn it?

To come back to dubbing: That's why I love DVDs! Even if you don't understand everything (well, most action movies are NOT very difficult to understand... ), you can watch the translated version before watching the original. And most originals are way better. But because of the long tradition in movie synchro, it's not as bad in Germany (and France I think) as in some other countries... Just heard about some polish dubbed movies in which all characters are spoken by the same speaker. That's odd...

Well, but my original question was: Which voices in the release have a made up accent and which accents are real?

@ LAM3O:

I'm in desperate need of new single player missions, too!

Thumbs up

After long problems I finally registered here. I used to post in your mods.firstones forum.

The demo was excellent, 2 years of waiting pays of somewhat now and surely in the future.

My only problem was that EA cruisers were dead before they could take their first shot at the Minbari warcruisers. So I think EA-cannons should have more range.

Other wise I played with a big, cheesy grin .
