Its better than remaining hopelessly ignorant and posting a thread or two in a month saying that the Shivans were really the ancients.

The Shivan's can't be the Ancients... The Vasudans are.

I replayed the ending part once again in both ways (I die and I don't) and I'm absolutely sure that the man speaking on the background anticipates that "the explosion of a star might be the bridge between our universe and their own". Capella really isn't massive enough to become a black hole but if the Shivans are that advanced they might be able to force the star's core to collapse. They can still be originated in subspace since a black hole bows and distorts the structure of the universe very heavily so it might form an enormous jump node to an other dimension. Maybe they forgot they got a dentist
Again I managed to be horribly theoretical and out of this world... Well this is just one of possible explanations. A sequel was meant to be done, I believe. The ending is just like in a bad movie: they leave a clear blackout which they can take advantage of when making the next part. $$$ rulez.

Is that like some kind of punishment? You know how long that is! That's like telling him to read the unabridged version of War and peace...
No... War and Peace is for hiding my Vodka... IceFiar's Shivan threads (one in general discussion and the other on the tBE forum) are against the Geneva Convention, let alone BETAC!

Perhaps...but then so do literary critics and the like. FreeSpace 2 does have a story and does have a meaning and therefore it can be analyized like a novel can be...and since there is a gigantic mystery behind the ending, it only makes sense to try and figure it out. Unfortunately....you can't
Maybe so, but at least I'm not wasting my time trying to figure
out something which will never have a definitive answer unless
an OFFICIAL Freespace 3 is made. Which is very unlikely!

Well its only a waste of time if its a percieved waste of time. Analysing ****ens is a waste of time if not a test in boredom...but some people do it
The other common misconception out there (and I carried it as well) is that Jason Scott and/or Adam Plecher know exactly what happened. Thats not exactly true...and I did ask them about the FS series in general. There is a direction, but the events at Capella are just a rock in the stream.

So there making it up as they go along? LOL! That explains the shivans Kidnapping Bosch, and not killing him outright. (Like they knew who Bosch was, and what he looked like from a pulse of energy... :rolleyes

Did you manage to get anything else out of them? About the
direction it was heading I mean.

Well, I talked to Admiral Bosch, and he only had one thing to say about being captured by the Shivans...
