Want to try out high-speed FS2? Check this out...

Velocity Mod

I did this a month or so ago, and I'm quite pleased with the effect- there is definitely a "swoop" factor now, where you go blazing past the enemy, wheel around, and chase them down. FS2 fighters, by default, only go about 200mph. This mod doubles that, what I feel is the right balance between speed and gameplay. In some ways, combat is actually easier- missiles are easier to dodge, for example. It just takes a bit more effort to get a kill.

After quite a bit of testing, the capships do NOT go any faster. This was done in the interests of gameplay- it makes it possible to play most current missions without having all of the timing messed up(transports taking only half the time to reach the destination, for example.) Increased capship speed is more fun(you can download a version of the mod with that as well, if you want) but I think it's better to be able to play almost all missions this way. Missions like "Their Finest Hour" and "Armageddon" are a lot of fun.

Anyone who has played around with TBL editing for high-speed combat will have run into the jump out-bug: If a ship has a high enough top speed, when you jump out, the subspace portal will open and close before the ship gets there. This was frustrating for a while, but there IS a workaround- take all power off of engines immediately before jumping out, and it works fine.

Anyways, please try it out...if you like it, please give me a bit of feedback. It should give you a rough idea what high speed combat is like.

I'm really glad you feel that way. As an enthusiastic but crappy pilot and a big B5 fan, I'd be very disappointed if it were too tough for me to play.

You'll have fun with the fast afterburners but otherwise fairly fast top speed.

Ice, you too play Subspace? Damn

I sure do Eternal One. My brother and I are frequent players on Xtreme Games. Just grabbed the new Continuum Client last night...its got better frame rates. Very cool!
