Uh oh... And how is played supposed to fire that beam? Are you still going to make WS pilotable or not?

The player has no control over the beam. They target the ship they want to hit and when they bring it into view, the beam cannon will fire. They can control the guns.
Beam cannons are not player controllable. Except the Targeting Laser but it does wacky things.

I already said, players cannot control beams. Its as simple as that.
The turret model is a 90% should work thing.

It certainly would be interesting to try out a Hel'te'zha in an unofficial mission...

Actually in FRED you can use SEXPs to allow the beam to fire on it's own when a key is pressed. I know because i have done it. I lost that mission when my computer crashed but it does work.

Thats the poor man's way. And we have source code. It doesn't work properly yet...but we're getting there.

Yeah it works on FRED like Edwin said, but why to use that way when source code is modifable.
And if used by FRED there would be bunch of questions for FREDers (again) about how you can make beams fire

Yeah it works on FRED like Edwin said
I suggest you try that yourself first, and then tell me if it can be done or not. I've tried, but couldn't make it work. The problem is making the game understand that the same button can be pressed several times, instead of just one.
