about that boxy design theory, well its true, terrans usually go for the lego look, and thats true even now, military and civilian cargo ships are boxy because its cheaper to make a box than a circle, the ships are curved only where they have to be. but when you take a look at civilian yahts and cruise liners, you will see a much more graceful design. they attempt to use at least some asthetics in their design because unlike the cargo ships and military vessels, their goal is to get people to buy tickets to travel on them. as a result, the ships are going to reflect the areas that they operate in and what thier function is. a ship designed to just haul people from one point to another is going to look a bit more boxy and is and will have a bit more emphasis placed on speed and economy. after all, it is designed to get as many people there as possible and as quickly as possible. as ship designed for pleasure cruises on the other hand will place more emphasis on design and attractions than speed and economy. also, ships that operate in dangorous areas would also boast rather effective anti fighter weapons, though they would probably have light missile banks when compared to warships due to the cost of the missiles themselves. ships intended to transport poeple should tend to be graceful looking boxes or maybe even light capitol ships that have been stripped and repainted for the dangorous areas, while the ships intended for pleasure should represent grace and beauty stripped to their very essence.
