The problem with that is that a species with such a configuration would build ships that could attack effectively at all angles, like a star. *
Its fighters would be able to fly in any direction, rather than just forwards... All the ships would probably end up being sphere- based.

The shivan ships attack forwards ---------->>> the same as Terran and vasudan vessels.. in fact moreso in some cases. This suggests to me that that species did *not* build the ships.

Whether its a Shivan or not doesn't really come into it, It has to be a shivan, because Shivan was simply the name we gave the species. Is that species in charge? We don't know. Did they build the ships? We don't know.

Whether these shivans are the species that built the ships is a matter of design, for the ships were all in fact designed by humans. (dah)

Also, isn't it rather politically incorrect to name the bad guys in a game after religious figures?
"introducing the GTD Jesus Christ, the most destructive warship ever constructed!"

shivans.........They're a filthy plague to the galaxy.......one the GTVA must and WILL exterminate.

Ive noticed the same thing with shivan ships. They devote much of their beam cannon power to the front. That gives the GTVA a major flanking ability.

I think they're the guardians of subspace. They prevent races from expanding to dominate the stars,so once a race develops subspace travel ability, the come and destroy them.

THATS their motive.

I was ready to flame you, but I read the rest of the post
Explain me one thing: if they are the guardians of subspace, there must be a reason no? Please think again the "plague" idea, and think again if it would we that wise to exterminate them

as for the guardians of subspace, I did think the same thing the first time I played FS1 and got to that cutscene. (u know what I mean)

But this doesn't explain their destroying Capella......

Maybe they consider themselves to be the guardians of subspace, justifying their actions to themselves in that way.....

Don't know why that idea popped into my head. Someone kick it to pieces, quick.

Shivans could kill other races which could fight back for sport.
but there isn't really any point talking bout this cos nothing is known about how they are, like personality wise.

ha, wouldnt that be amusing to see. Thoough it might be possible.

The Sathanas is a piece of crap, the design really suks ass. all the beam weapon, or most, are in the front. I remeber the scouting mission when you had to scan the subsystems of the thing and you had a corvette backin you up. The corvette was doing some dammage to the ship with a flanking manuever. Know if the GTVA had any sense they would have sent soem destroyers to flank the thing right away and blow it out of the sky!

but I don't think the Sathanas was designed to be a warship. The heavy front beams were a side-effect of whatever job the ship had to do at Capella, and other than them, the ship has pretty standard defenses, considering its a shivan ship and so large.

That makes sense, i just dont like the way the ship was made to look like such a badass thing, it really wasnt except for the front beams. I mean, i would consider the Lucifer from FS1 a way bigger threat.

Oh, just thought of this. Sol had more then one jump node, i think it was three according to the map, the lucifer collapsed them all, how did that happen? In Capella the they had to send ships through both jumpnodes to make them collapse

if sol had more than one jumpnode then that's one major plot oversight. Do the others lead anywhere that can be gotten to from the other side?

and one ship can collapse a node. at the end of FS2, they sent one away from Capella to stop any more shivans coming in to Capella from that side, then the node from Capella to GTVA space was destroyed, stopping them from coming any further.

(though it is debatable whether (A) the shivans wanted to come any further or not, and (B) if collapsing nodes in this way would really prevent a Shivan ship from using the node.)

I think the 2 other sol nodes led to dead ends, tho I'm not 100% sure

If you go to one of briefings when the lucifer was comign to earth they show two other nodes.

i think those nodes went to two othre GTA systems behind earth. If that true thats a major screw up.

i doubt the shivans wanted to come further into GTVA space, the could of if they had moved there sathanas ships toward the nodes. So in reality blowin up the nodes wouldnt have mattered, but to be on the save side it had to been done.

The Nodes were a MISTAKE!! There is only 1. They made that briefing and then changed the story.

Arrow My opinion

The Shivans are the Great Destroyers. If you like killing people, they'll kill you.

The Ancients annihilated other species'. They saw the Shivans and attacked. The Shivans saw the Ancients and attacked, and fought back.
The Vasudans and Terrans were fighting. The Shivans saw them fighting. So, the Shivans tought the VTs a lesson.

Maybe all the jump nodes were in almost the same place, and where you went depended on the direction you were pointed in. The Lucifer could have collapsed them all if they were all open at the same time, I think. (Freighters could have been leaving the system or something)

No, it was a mistake by V. There was only one node, no more.

Let's just pretend for consistency's sake.
Or not...

EDIT: The Shivans are our friends. They're not fighting, they're playing!

No seriously, it was a mistake. They made the briefing and then the story was changed.
