We never know,Admiral Bosch might come back with the Shivan Armada demanding a re-match.but by the time it would take them to find another way into GTVA space,we'll probably have re-established the link to sol and then we'll probably be fighting them .
I strongly believe bosch isn't dead. And i also believe that when they do return in FS3(I pray every night for it to come) We'll have the Apocalypse built by then and maybe another Colossus. But we'll definately have apocalypse there. If not,Id like to see a campaign as good as derelict, the only problem with derelict is it didn't have enough big battles, just pissy little skirmishes against pathetic pirates. A 30missino campaign completely surrounded by the returing of shivans to GTVA space and fighting the apocalypse would be really cool.

Everyone should stop making these pissy 6-7 mission campaigns and make a big,cool,well-built campaign with about 30-40 missions in it.

I've been hoping that Kazan will restart his work on Unholy Alliance, and as it's already well underway, it'd be a good idea for someone to try to finish it, provided Kazan doesn't mind.

Ace was having a metaphorical moment. Shivans are highly connected with subspace, we just don't know all about it yet.

Piss 7-8 mission campaigns are actually better since the designer can concentrate quality into those set of missions to produce good missions. A large 30-40 mission campaign is HARD. Derelict is basically the first high quality long campaign...and the reason is that its not easy at all. Thats a tribute to Kellan and Agatheron and their mission design skills.

Yeah, it is. I finished Derelict over the weekend after a month-long Diablo II binge, and the largest errors I saw throughout the whole thing were grammar problems and typos! The whole thing was extremely impressive. And aren't they (Kellan and Agatheron) involved in Blackwater Ops now?

Why does EVERYONE have typos and grammar mistakes in their missions? On a forum, sure, but a mission needs to have good spelling etc.

Yes Snipes, and obviously you're not in the 'no-one' category, judging by your spelling.

That sounds good. The Ancients could have built them to guard them. If you made someone to guard you would you want them to be a wimp, or vicious, and mean? No they would not have to have technology in them. They could have been a race of alien that they found and genetically engineered them. Or they could have been * grown * by the Ancients. That then the destroyers came for us. That could have been what they were called by the Ancients. The Destroyers. And we don’t know for a fact that the Ancients are extinct, they could have just been wiped out from this part of the galaxy. Or! Maybe there was a group of Ancient rebels that did not like that they were using the Shivans and they moved to our part of the galaxy and they were all killed by the Shivans that where sent by the Ancients. And that scouting party may have been sent to check and make sure they were all wiped out, and when they found us they may have though that we were them, or that maybe we are a threat to the Ancients. Okay that my 2cents.

Did you even read beyond the first post? we pretty much disproved the "built by the ancients" theory.

Here's some fuel on the fire:

The ancients that we know of in FreeSpace and FreeSpace 2 are in fact one of countless races annihilated by the Shivans.

The Knossos and sub-space tracking technology of theirs were discovered in the ruins of races before them, and improved upon to their current mechanisms.

As Bosch said, the history of the universe is much like the nine cities of Troy, built upon the ashes of those before.

If the ancients' findings were never known, and if the Terrans never had the expertise with Shivan systems, both the Terran and Vasudan species would have been annihilated.

Good points. You're definitely right about that the Terrans and Vasudans would've been destroyed if they hadn't found the subspace tracking tech.

ALSO! We really can't say what did or what did not happen because we are not the ones that made the game! =) IF they made a FreeSpace 3 they could have the GTVA find a race of Aliens just as powerful as the Shivans, and they could be at war.

Also!!! I'm sure there are at lest one race out there that is older and more powerful than the Shivans. After all FreeSpace 1 & 2 are only taking place in our own galaxy.

But would a race of such age be fighting the Shivans.

They would undoubtedly UNDERSTAND...which is the key to fighting the Shivans.

With what we have with FreeSpace and FreeSpace 2...we do not understand.

DaveB said...Shvains are only part of the much larger problem. Ace I think speculated that it was Subspace that was the center of the problem. But that doesn't quite cut it for me. Not entirely. Subspace must have some sort of relationship with something else.....that something is currently beyond my grasp.

I read some thing in FreeSpace I think, about the Shivans may have originated from Subspace. Maybe someone, or something is making subspace create the shivans? Maybe a race is *killing* subspace for lack of a better word and subspace made them to save it?.. I just don't know..

I've been toying with what the problem truly is, sub-space is a medium for the problem.

The Shivans can effect the problem through this medium. (destroying sub-space activity, reconfiguring nodes via destruction of stars, etc.)

What the "problem" is itself, I have many speculations which are far-flung but plausible.

I will show what we know of "the problem" in Twilight's sequel, and it will bring a "Shivan solution" which is temporary but for the sake of the timeframe it is a conclusion to the conflict.
