So I just started playing it

Wife bought me the PC version for Xmas, but I promised myself I wouldn't install it till I finished Wolfenstein and Ghost Recon.

Well, one thing led to another, and the bloody thing is still in shrink wrap, BUT, I got a PS2 cheap a few weeks ago, and my buddy had both Summoner and RF.

So, I finally started playing

How many "stealth" missions are there? I'm trying to kidnap some suit and I all I have is a pistol, and I keep screwing it up and bringing the house down on me. I'll muddle through this one, but are there many of these? I was just getting into the groove of a fragfest when the sprung this on me

keep your pistol 'holstered'. that way the gaurds dont see this suit waving a gun around all the time.

and if you have to kill someone, do it in a room, and kick the body around.

Exclamation SPOILER ALERT

There are two stealth missions, so don't bother trying to save up the big guns.
There is one part of this where you have to get noticed by the guards, but if you run fast enough you can get into an elevator and then everyone forgets.
Keep your gun holstered when possible and stay away from guards unless going past one is neccessary.

Oh, and why does the pistol make clicking sounds after you shoot in stealth misions?

Once you reach the floor that Gryphon is on, clean out all the guards before picking him up. IIRC there's a room where you can get some better weapons.

As for the second stealth section... don't even bother. Just avoid picking up the lab coat and blast your way through. RF's implementation of sneaking is so half-assed that's it's not worth the effort to deal with.

Zylon, either you are a very good player or you haven't played the game on Impossible yet.

Exclamation Hint

As soon as you get Griphen go into the female toilets to distract the guard, and then kill him, Its easy from there on in.

Eh, I'm a decent player, and I have no interest in Impossible mode. RF was tedious enough on default difficulty.

The trick to clearing out Gryphon's floor is lots of headshots, and taking out the guy in the security station. Ah, and I just remembered that the game won't let you collect weapons until you get another suit (argh!). So headshot all the guards on the level, get the suit, then backtrack and pick up the stuff they dropped. Unfortunately, the elevator to this floor is apparently one-way (argh!), so you can't go back and mop up those guys you ran past earlier.

Thumbs up for Descent!!! And, where is Descent IV ???

Back to RF....

Question regarding the tram trip right before the suit part. The "Official Stratagy Guide" for RF says there is a creature who drops onto the tram car while en route. I didn't get attacked by a creature on the tram. Did anyone?

Why do you have a guide for Red Faction?

And no, I've nver had any "creatures" dropping in on me. And I don't seem to recall there being a tram right before the Gryphon bit.

Thanks for responding F S W.

I pick up game books and flip through them to see if I miss anything in the game software I purchase. I do want to get the experience of anything and everything the programers put in. I don't have unlimited time to find and hunt for interesting views, experiences, and every secret area and easter egg. At least not the time like I used to.

Near the end of level 5, after disembarking from the submarine, Parker either walks all the way to the Admin Building office complex door, or rides the small flatbed tram car to the Admin Building office complex door. There at the door he enters, meets the friendly red faction member, and puts on a suit and tie before entering the first floor of the office complex of the Administration Building on his way to Gryphon.

Per page 63 of "Red Faction: Prima's Official Strategy Guide" by Keith Kolmos, a creature suddenly drops from the ceiling in the tram area.

When one writes a book like this, often the game company provides a beta copy of the game to the author and later makes changes to to the game. Too late for the publisher. Or the game player is not playing at the "right" level of difficulty to see some events or visuals. (Hexen and Hexen II comes to mind with regard to this.) I have done RF on medium and hard difficulty levels and have not seen "the creature". Perhaps the creature appears on impossible level, or the creature was removed when the final release of RF hit the shelves.

there is a tram right after the sub I think, there's two guards on it and stuff, and I remember a screen shot with a reeper in an aria that looks sort of like this

Oh, I remember that. I wouldn't call it a tram though.
The only creatures in that bit are guards, and they don't drop on to the vehicle.
Is a reeper one of those monster things that chases you around in caves? Maybe you saw a beta screenshot.

Oh, BTW

I just bought Red Faction a few days ago and I am very impressed regarding the geological graphics. The dirt, the mist, the rocks, the chasms, the water, the fog, the lights and other objects in the distance through the mist or water.... Wow! Very impressive on my rig.
