I Hate doing this, but......
Hi. Yep, Im a newbie. Just figured Ide say hi to the team and the rest of the members of this forum. (I do this to find out if I should be charming or sarcastic based on the repsonses)
Im sure Ill have some rather outdated or silly questions, but, hey, isnt that what newbies are all about? I also run my own mod. Its for Homeworld and the team I belong to is getting the Space: Above and Beyond Universe into the game and are having success with it......so far.
Let the newbie bashing begin.

Yeah, yeah. I know. Some forums are like palaces where they allow you to put neat stuff in your sig, and then there are some forums that are like a cardboard box that dont.
Guess Ill just hafta live with that.
Has anyone realized that the core file download takes about 23455452432424423424 hours to download or is it just me? Even at 56k Im only gettin 2.4 kb/s. I usually get about 5 kb/s.
And thanx, Alpha. Nice to meet ya.

Well, it only took me about 6 hours on my 56k but, regardless of your 234264353453somethin' hour wait, I'm sure you'll find it the best total conversion you've ever played!

Haha, NICE orange.
As you can see, we like having fun. Try not to offend Orange - make fun of him, sure, but don't piss him off. He gets angsty

Cool. Im glad to see you guys arent a bunch of stiffs and that sarcasm lives everywhere. Just the way it should be
From the screenshots that I have seen so far, I am quite impressed. What kind of poly count do you guys get on your bigger meshes? They seem quite detailed. Something that you would only hope for with great textures, but it looks like the detail is in the mesh itself. EX the Sharlin. VERY impressive.
LMOA at my title! VERY cool. Glad I made an impression already.

Yeah, we like having fun here. Some questions shouldn't be asked however....like incessantly asking when the next release is out...thats a bad one . But if your a MOD developer, you should know just what a release date means (which is nothing).
Poly counts on fighters is anywhere from 250-600....thats been our goal and we've hit it so far for every fighter. Smaller capital ships are around the 700-1000 mark....and ships like the Nova are I think 1200. The Sharlin is a brilliant mesh and texturing job and so the details are mostly in the textures but there's enough mesh detail to make it look right.

Thanx, Ice. Yeah, I know what its like to have people continually bugging about a next release. You will never hear me say that as I can relate to the pissy attitude that rises up from the ashes when someone asks that on my forum. It will arrive when it arrives.
Incedentally, you guys are really gonna laugh at me for this one. I dont have Freespace 2 and have never played it. Actually, I just got home from work and on the way home, I stopped at the local Electronic's Boutique and they had not one copy of it on their shelves. So, since I CANNOT STAND to have the 140 megs of this mod on my hard drive and not be able to use it, my quest will venture on to some other stores as I WILL have it by the end of the weekend. Very pissed was I when the little store clerk said, "Um, well, I dont think we have that game, sir."
1. I hate to be called sir. Just because Im starting to bald doesnt mean that I want to be called sir.
2. Its EB for Christ's sake! They should every game ever made even if its Pong.
Ok. Im done venting.

I thought having someone call you "sir" meant you've been given a tiny bit of respect
As for not having FS2, well supposidly it's become very hard to find. If no shop has it either you can check to see if Interplay will sell games directly (don't think they do), or you'll have to buy it from eBay.
One of the poeple in the =SSC= who had never played FS2 before wanted to get his hands on it and he had to use eBay.

You could always borrow a mate's copy of Freespace 2 and make yourself a "backup" copy of the CDs

Ok, were not going to condone outright pirating on this fourm. So stop that line of discussion.
I believe Interplay still sells the game via the website. I still see boxes of it around here and there but its become more rare as time has passed on. If Interplay were smart, they would re-release it as a whitebox editor or something. But they are stupid and it won't happen.

Sorry, I can remove my post if required
IIRC there were boxsets of FS1/FS2 being sold at £10. I don't know if they still are on sale/being produced but these sets were good value for money.
