improved FSAA for 3dfx cards in Freespace

Hi all,
a chap named Colourless has made some work on Glide (it's also open source), so that Voodoo5 (and 4) can run glide-games with FSAA without getting the text blurred. He has also modified the fs2.exe file to take advantage of this improved code. Both the new glide dll's and the modified fs2.exe can be found at Colourless's site http://www.users.on.net/triforce/glidexp/

Copy the glide2x.dll and glide3x.dll to Windows\System and the fs2.exe to the Freespace2 directory (as always, backup the originals first just in case...)

Although the project is called GlideXP the dll's also work in Win9x, I use Win98se. According to Colourless this latest release is also faster than previous glide versions, so Voodoo3 owners might also wanna try it. http://pub43.ezboard.com/fx3dfxfrm1.showMessage?topicID=12483.topic

Here is an example with the new glide dll's (top), and below there is a pic with the normal blurred hud-text. The effect is off course much more evident during briefings when there is alot of text.

This maybe a little off topic, but can anyone tell me where to get a Glide wrapper for glide 2x and glide 3x that actually works. I want to see Uprising and Uprising 2 looking nice again after I exchanged my old Voodoo 3 3000.

http://www.voodoofiles.com has a few (IIRC) but don't count on finding one that works. Firstly, a lot of glide wrappers are made with the express purpose of being able to use UltraHLE (an N64 emulator) on non-3dfx cards and secondly, like all emulators you can't expect decent performance out of a wrapper.

If your V3 was PCI (or you could find a PCI V3) you could try putting it in and using Windows built in multi-monitor support to enable Glide but I wouldn't know how well that works or even if it'd work at all.
