FS1 vs. FS2 on Weaponry & Ships
Which ship do you prefer to fly in, and wtih which weapons config?
Also: Which bomber. Can't forget those...
My own selection: The GTF Perseus with double Kaysars 'n double Tornadoes or the Erinyes with double Maxims 'n Harpoons. Depends if a capship plays a role.
Bomber: The Ursa. Definetely. it is old. it is big. it is something Alpha wing flies with.
*Note: Alpha Wing always have to get the job done with the worst load-out...I make it more interesting using weak weapons...and no wingmen on most missions.*

Favorite bomber is the Boanerges. Its a pure bombing platform...great stuff. As far as fighters...a Perseus or a Hercules Mark 2. Generally with a Prom S/Kayser combo (I hate having only one type of gun, I prefer to do the 1 - 2 punch). Combo pack of Harpons and Tornado missiles.

Hercules was actually my all-time favorite fighter (Valkyrie and Ulysses came close ). The Hercules with double Banshees or Kaysers. Combo of Hornets and Harpoons/Intercepters. I love using the herc 1 and linking the weapons. Taking out Shivan heavy fighters is easy, you hit them with six shots at a time.
I actually never really like the Herc II. Myrmidon was okay, I didn't mind the Boanerges. Ursa's my favorite heavy bomber ( Or maybe the Bakha ). Oh yeah, I forgot about the Erinyes. That one I like more than the Herc 1. Loaded out with Kaysers, and Subach HL-7s. (Why Subachs. Those Kaysers take up a lot of energy when your non-stop firing at a Shivan bomber squad. You can hurt them with the Subachs while the weapons energy recharges).
So, overall. The Erinyes or the Herc1.

Myrmidon, all the way. Kaysers and Subachs, with the Kaysers in the quad gunpoint slot, will rip through most ships. Then you have your usual choice of two secondaries (Tornado and Trebuchet) and the added bonus of a pair of Helioses! Decent speed, armor, shield, manouverability, and loadout balance.

FS1: All about the Uly. It just is.
FS2: You know, I love the Ares. I don't love the Erinyes. But I can also do some mad damage with a Thoth or Myrmidon, although the Myrmidon doesn't quite have the loadout capacity I like...

FS2 - GVB Sekhmet all the way. It only has one type of guns, but it's probably the best bomber in the game (discounting Shivan ones of course). As for fighters, if I can't get a Terran Mara, then a Tauret. It's way better than the Herc 2.
FS1 - the Apollo. I know it's old and crap, but it's just so cool . And for a bomber, probably the Athena, closely followed by the Ursa. I hated the Medusa, not really sure why, but I just did, and the Zeus was very...mediocre. Plus I guess I have a thing for the older ships (hence the Athena, not the Ursa )

My favourite fighter is definately the Horus. Stock it up with Prometheus S and Tornado weapons and you have a high speed nightmare.
Bomber-wise, I prefer the Artemis D.H. It's definitely the most threatening bomber the GTVA has. I like maxim guns. cyclops and trebuchet. Or, if I want to be a sniper, just Trebuchet.
I'm best in an Ares though. I like to sit'n sting. You stop and let your shields do their thing until the enemy gets confident and closes in. The you charge straight at them firing everything you've got.
Doesn't work very well against humans though, because they're a lot more willing to use missiles than the AI!

My favorites would be:
Perseus with UD8-Kaysers and Harpoons
Artemis D.H and Bongarates with UD8-Kayser and all bombs from Trebuchet to Helios
