problems with flags
hello.
I'v searched everywhere for this kind of topic, but was unsuccesful in finding one.
the fs2_open works fine for me (ver 3.5.5) without flags.
but when i turn the flags on, i get the following error message:
Error: Unrecogzined command line parameter -spec
File:E:\Languages\Visual Studio Projects\Visual C++\fs2_open\code\Cmdline\cmdline.cpp
Line: 638
Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
this error message is for the -spec flag, however i get this exact message with any flag i check in.
I'll appreciate any help one could give me. thanks.
Ps: there is no speech in the briefings or during mission important dialouges in the babylon project. Is it supposed to be that way?

What is the CG speech?
what i mean, is that i only hear speech from wingman calling for help, or blowing up. I dont hear speech in the breifing before the mission, where you see all the diagrams of the mission, and the objectives at the last slide. I dont hear speech during mission, when capital ships or the command say something. I can read those messages ofcourse, but that drastically reduces the atmosphere of the game
About the flags problem, i think i have the most recent .exe file, as i said 3.5.5. I didnt find any other newer files. You said 3.6 is soon to come, do you mean that i cant see the special effects untill then? If so, how did everybody else managed to see them?

Hi Icefront. Nice to see new people joining.
3.5.5 is actually very old (IIRC it was released in September of last year!). There is a link below to an FS2_open installation guide that should help you with your problems.
As Bob says 3.6 will be out very soon but all you'll need to do if you've followed the instructions in that guide is download the 3.6 exe file and point the launcher at it (all the flags etc will remain the same).
As for speech IIRC there wasn't any new voice acting recorded for the missions in Release 2 although R1's mimbari war campaign did have speech.
FS2_open is capable of computer generated speech which will read aloud all the briefings etc for you if there isn't a voice acted version. Some people find it useful as it stops them having to pause the game to read messages.

Ohhh, i was wondering what was the computer generated speech for
thanks for all your help and explenations
I have another question regarding TBP.
Forgive me for my ignorance about everyting that is concerned to babylon 5, i never got the chance to be a fan of the show, i only saw a couple of episodes once, and a movie, which was quite good, but i do love FreeSpace
anyway, the fighters we pilot in the mod, have no shields, however you can still control the engine, shield and weapon energy. My question is what is the shield energy for in this case? since fighters have no shields, can i just distribute this energy to the weapons and engines?

Fighters do have shields, minimal at that. Protects well against overly efficient shockwaves but offers little to no protection against weapons.

The real B5 ships have no shields but one was needed for the TBP versions to stop shockwaves killing you in the manner Mr Fury describes.
As for the show itself, if you ever get the chance watch it. Definately the best Sci-Fi series ever made
If you're more of a fan for FS2 than B5 after you've played TBP be sure to check out the other campaigns like Deralict and Homesick (my favourite FS2 Campaign without a doubt). You can find links either here on VW, on HLP or from Skippy's Campaign list (All of which I link to in my FAQ).

thanks again for the links.
Skippy's list has some bad links in it, but the HLP list works fine.
this should keep me occupied for a while

They do. But as far as I'm aware no one has released any of those
