glowmap pack and some shinemaps

So, I finally found some time to put a zip together with all my glowmaps and some shinemaps for all your FS2_open needs.
Some glowmaps are based on the maps in the TBP_open (some are even unchanged), the other bunch I made myself from scratch (mostly stuff from R2). I got Bobbaus permission to use his glowmaps, so credit goes to him, if I forgot to ask somebody, let me know.
I also made some shinemaps for the Aurora, Badger, T-Bolt, 1/2 of the Omega and the asteroids (they badly needed it). The shinemaps are far from perfect, so if you think you could do any better.... you're welcome.
If anybody has some (better) glowmaps/shinemaps, or wants to create some, post it here, so maybe we could throw together a .vp with a complete set of glow/shinemaps.

You can download it here

Notes:

- Installation: Just unzip all the files in your "\Freespace2\data\maps\" folder.

- To use this maps you need a FS2_open exe that supports them. I recommend the 12_05_2003_fs2_open_r.exe
Get it here

- If somebody created some glowmaps for the TBP_open pack and isn't credited, let me know.

I'll be giving these a go ASAP with a view to including them in the next patch. Good work Fishguts, Bobboau, and everyone else.

Goodie. I'll work on more shinemaps, when my exams are over (about 5 weeks from now).

I did, what you wrote, but it doesn't work.

In the TechRoom everything seems to work right, but as soon as I go into a mission I see my desktop instead of the ships.

I used the link you gave, but found only a 01_20_2004 but not the12_05_2003, so I used that one. Maybe thats the reason.

Can someone give me a link to the older Version of FS_Open?

Whith only FS2 the FS_Open version I have works fine, only with TBP and Col. Fishguts' maps, it doesn't work.

BTW whats the difference between glow and shine maps?

You'll get that running any mission with an Olympus.

Sounds like the Olympus bug. Make sure you use Bobs updated model along with the renamed maps (included in my zip). You can get the pof here
It should work with the newer exe, haven't tested it though, but haven't heard any complaints either.
Anybody else got problems getting it to work ?

Glowmaps define the self-illuminated stuff of a texture (little windows, nav lights, and stuff)

Shinemaps(sometimes referred as specular mapping) define the intensity and colour of the reflected light. Its used in all the new FS2_open HTL builds, the short story is: If used correctly it makes everything look more realistic.

Check out the HLP Forums for more technical details.

@BriDog: Search the forum, there are some old threads witch pretty screenies from the old days, when glowmaps were first introduced.

The updated Olympus still works as you would expect. I plan on posting some screen shots of my WIP mini campaign which will show off the glowmaps and shinemaps.

The pof should be in data\models ?

And to the shinemaps again:
Do you mean the ships get illuminated by the surroundings?

If thats correct, I think thats a better way to describe it to someone who isn't that good in english (like myself).

Shine maps are really only specular maps. When the light reflects off the ship, it is intensified as defined by the shinemap.

And yes, the pof goes in data\models.
