shine mapping

some of you may have seen this, but sence I don't think anyone checked the last post I made I'm going to make a new topic

in this HLP SCP topic I have relesed a new SCP exe that suports shine mapping
in order to run this and all future SCP exes you will need to run the launcher at least once the most up to date version of the launcher I beleve is right here (note that is Phreaks build, it has some unrelated SCP exes)

now this new technology realy makes the origonal FS2 look pants pissingly wonderific, unfortunately it seems that many TBP models were smooth shaded when they probly shouldnt have been (Omega), or PCSs smooth shadeing didn't come out as nice as it should have and thus some models don't look as good as they could. but many of them do at the least look somewhat better and customised shine maps (see linked thread or this one for details) might be all the diference needed.
here are a few pics from in game

I just made a very good update, I gave stars a seperate specular value and then I made a modifyed version of TBP's stars table, I realy should change those pictures becase it's about 5-10 times better looking now
you will need in addition to the zip above and the latest version of the TBP_open files this altered table
wow, it realy looks good now

Does this effect work on geforce 2's? I only ask because it didn't seem to work for me(I used the exe from the thread over at the HLP).

Wow...very cool, alittle much red but nevertheless great. The screenies over at SCP are even more stunning.

What's that you'r talking about the TBP models beeing smooth shaded ? I've read it somewhere else, but I don't understand what is meant.
Is that, when the textures are smoothed, or what ?

it means the normals of all polys are avereged so that they blend into each other, this was added into PCS at the last minute, and in my experience is generaly less than perfict, this hasn't been that big of an issue untill now becas the phong lighting model doesn't like it when the normals on a poly are realy realy diferent (it looks perfict on flat shaded pollys)

if only kazan was still around, I know the implementation that would be perfict useing the auto facet smoothing option.

and remember the screens posted are actualy out of date alredy

Ah, I see....like the smooth groups in 3DS.
I didnt know that the engine supports this.

Looks good anyway.....with this new shine maps, the game engine is now on-par with todays "space-engines" like Freelancer. Thanx Bob
