Interface question

I was looking at some of the pictures of the interface, and I find it just incredible. I've been working on the interface for the Into the Night lately and I've hit something of a wall. The image, converted to 256 colors in PSP, looks fine; once the game is started however, the color reduction is horrible - it looks as if the engine is reducing the colors yet again.

How you guys did yours such that you don't see such a drastic reduction?

What are you replacing and how badly did the colors get distorted. PSP usually asks if you want to load the updated image or not...you may not be seeing any change...just a thought.

We used something called Bright. Its around...simple command line interface program that reduces the colors to 256 in the best possible way.
