Welcome to the VWBB!
Well I'm not positive but it has something to do with where in the .tbl files you put the info for any mods. Specifically in weapons, you have to put the right weapon in the right group. There is a section for primary weapons, a section for beams, etc. If anything is in the wrong spot then you get that error message.

HeX....it specifically says SHIPS.tbl, not weapons. Check the size of the ships.tbl and if it's over 380k it won't work, delete something.
If you want me to try to figure it out, email it to me @ Farcaster@hotmail.com

Yeah, delete comment lines.
Everything behind a ";" is a comment and can be deleted. YOu know that EVERY Ascii symbol takes 1 byte or so... (thanks to Cirian for that info)

I think there is also a ship limit in FS2 anyway. I remember that for the longest time fighters that were supposed to be Astaroths were coming up as Ulysses because there were just too many ships in the file. When I removed a couple of custom ships, Astaroths reappeared.
Just to alert you to potential problems in the future involving huge ships tables.

Thanks for the info guys...i have kinda figured out the problem but i think your right on the too many ships part but the size issue isnt always true. i had a ships.tbl that was 460k and it ran...only once because i decided to try and modify it even more. big mistake. the reason i think the ships thing might be true is because i had some 10 to 15 custom ships on there. thanks again.
