Babylon 4
Xaphod - those are incridible shots of B4! You've really done some good work on it, along with anyone else who's helped with any aspect of the model (please can you provide a full list of the credits so that we can spread the praise appropriately). I can't wait to see it in game.
As a little question on it though, what weaponry are you planning to arm it with?
Finally, are those new shots or old shots of the Whitestar in the Screenshots section? Either way, for an alpha, it's looking good

B4 looks nice, very very nice. Will the rotating sections have the counter-rotating feature (ie one goes clockwise and the other anti clockwise)?
Will there be two models of B5 - one with the old defence grid and one with the new (after GROPOS)?

No...its easy enough to just arm every turret for a specific mission pre-upgrade with the basic turret. Its not 100% accurate, but it saves us the space (and you the download time).

Hmmm.. credits.. let's see:
Tomcat for general assistance and idea bouncing,
IP Andrews for making the B5 model I referred to on occassion.
My girlfriend for being.
My sister for having the B5 DVDs which let me get some decent screencaps.
http://www.wolfsshipyard.mystarship.com/drawings.html
I'd also like to thank the Academy, my Mother and Father..
Ahem.
The full counter-rotating will be in place, even if we have to cheat a little to make it work.
It'll be armed with the same types of weapons as Babylon 5.. only in greater quantities - B4 was built with no expense spared, while it took the EA a year and a half to raise the cash for decent weapons for B5.
Just like to point out that I'm not done yet though.. still have to get it ready for converting and get it working in game.

It should do. B4 is quoted as having the largest engines on anything the EA ever built.
Unfortunately I can't remember whether that line was from the show itself or from another canon source. But B4 definately had them.
EDIT : Google knows all! It was in the comic "In Valen's Name"

An engine doesn't have to be used for movement

The "engines" aren't made for any travel, that's for sure. They're probably just for making corrections to their orbits etc. Calling them engines gives the wrong impression to some, "control thrusters" or something would be more accurate. You can't just build a station and hope it stays put on it's own forever. The only time we see them in use is in The Gathering, where, after the assassin's bomb goes off, C&C has it's hands full keeping the station in one piece by using the thrusters.
FS2 engine isn't newtonian, there aren't any real celestial systems and no need for including a painstaking detail like this - unless someone can come up with an actual use for it. I couldn't... and I doubt there are any. Such scenarios (like in The Gathering etc.) can be handled without engine systems anyway, can't they?
Edit: Okay, I read that synopsis *after* I posted... It seems that B4 did have actual engines. No other EA station probably has them. The issue of moving B5 was brought up after SiL came out; people asked if B5 could have been moved elsewhere etc. The answer: "It can be moved, sure, but can it *survive* the move? Also, you'd have to bring B5 through a jump point in order to bring it anywhere, and the stresses involved in that would be hideous." and "You couldn't tow something as massive as a 5 mile long station like this through hyperspace; it'd tear apart." I wonder how B4 was moved though, if it too was pretty much confined in one system (unless the minbari reinforced it somehow, that is)... You'd think it wouldn't be too hard to find a station of that size from a system you know it's in. Then again, maybe it would be hard... whatever.

quote: However, the signal is coming from a different location than the last place Babylon 4 was seen. Sheridan notes that since B4 was built on a much bigger budget than B5, there were a number of differences. "It was equipped with the biggest ion engines ever made," he says. "They didn't want it to be a sitting duck, like the previous three that were destroyed during construction."
Sounds like we aren't talking about simple attitude thrusters here. Sheridan seems to be of the opinion that B4 moved from one location to the other under its own power. I doubt very much that B5 could do that.
As for the TBP version I don't think it really matters though cause not many people will actually have the station move in game.

A good question would be "where are these engines?"
Best place I could think for them would be on the ring the solar panels are mounted on at the back.
I doubt that the actual show model had any engines on it.

Remember, Babylon 4 was not moved through just time, but space as well. Given the strain on Draal that opening the time portal was, he probably left it to Zathras to get the thing in the right place.
I don't think the Minbari were exploring the Euphrates sector in force in the middle of a war. (One where they were getting their Bones kicked at the time.)
