What s the Drakh Raider`s ship class?

Of course i wanna thank you for this great release!
You guys (and your work) are just amazing!

Its a bomber...it works, but not terribly well yet. We threw it in for fun for people to have...a much enhanced version will arrive later.

Until we support fs2_open officially, making animated textures lies on Bobboau's shoulders. So I doubt it will have animated textures anytime soon. Same with every other ship.

Drakh ships were not animated in their colors.

I thought it worked okay. It glides around engaging capships in a fairly convincing manner. The fighter variant is more fun though.

Drakh Raiders needs beam-free event.
Raider's weapon is a beam which is disabled by default. This is FS2/FRED2 feature.
No, you cannot fly Drakh ships.

One thing I've always wondered is:
Why do you have to enable beams on cap-ships?
And how do you do it right? I'm pretty sure I've gone wrong somewhere...

Because beams were sort of tacked onto the engine. Volitions initial intentions when they were added was that beams would be a rare kind of thing to be used. Later the decision was made to add beams to virtually all of the capital ships.
We live that legacy.
Beam free enabled works like this. You beam free a ship at a particular time or event. Its best to either trigger the beam free after the ship has arrived (otherwise it won't work) or after you want it to start using beams.

I find it easier to have some lowly ship jump in without the warp effect to get all the beam that you want enabled and then it Let there be light. If you can use open source and in mission spec have the all the beams enabled by default.

I know that i have to enable beams in the event menu, but i doesnt work! I made some Raiders, and activated their beams 5
seconds after arriving, but they dont fire!

****, mistake.
The thing between "Drakh raiders need..." and "No, you cannot" is the answer from me and not text from Mr Fury.

YOu can fly the Drakh Fighter, just go into the ships .tbl and flag as player_allowed or whatever the command is. I did, and its really good to fly. Handles like a heavy fighter and has no afterburner but the speed and firepower of it's primary weapon are good.
Regarding the raider, it works reasonably well at a distance but as the engine thinks its a bomber, once it has gotten close to it's target, the beam doesn't really get enough time to power up and fire before the raider has rotated away from it's angle of fire.

A prime example of why an even larger ship (the WhiteStar) with similar weapons would also have problems. Thats why we need the source code to produce better AI routines for these types of vessels.
