Quick Question .. I can replace ships in the ships.tbl file, but I can't see to add?

I am having problems adding new ships to my ships.tbl file. I can replace ships that are already there, but when I try to add a new ship, freespace2 crashes/dies/exits unexpectiedily on me.

I am guessing that thier is a var buried somewhere that tells the game how many ships to expect, but I have not been able to find it.

Perhaps somebody here could help me out on where to find that var?

(Note: I have been able to add new weapons to the game without any trouble, which seems odd if thier is a var set to howmany objects are in a table file).

There is ship limit on tables, I dont know excact count of ships and if I remember correctly its not healthy to have ship.tbl over 200 Kb size.

It's not a variable so much as a limit on the size of the ships.tbl file (380k or so).

There are several ways around this problem

1) Reduce the ships.tbl file in size without removing any ships (my FAQ has a copy where I`ve already done this and shows you how you how you can do it too)

2) Get a copy of FS_open (the open source build of FS2) which has already got the limits removed. Check This Link for details.

If you were unaware of the 380k problem I suggest you have a good root around in my FAQ anyway as it is one of the better known modding problems in FS2

FS_open does indeed allow you to add more ships (and lessens the constraint on the TBL's file size), but there is still a limit to how many ships you can insert there before serious bugs start to appear in both FRED and FS2 itself.

Ships.tbl limit has been upped slightly, increase it more and multiplayer takes a hike. No other problems.
