Freighters and Cargo Pods
Hiho,
since i am fussing with FRED again, something came into my mind.
I find it rather bothersome that the EA Freighters cannot undoch or dock their cargo pods.
While those cargo pods are designated as subsystems and you can shoot them down leaving the fighter bare, you cannot undock or doch containers.
I see several problems here....
1st : The Freighter has only 1 docking point on its bottom.
2nd : The docking maneauver for the freighter would probably take aeons.
I have tried working arround this by manually destroying all cargo pods on the freighter when the mission has started, then let the freighter dock with a cargo container, and as soon as its docked repair one cargo pod subsystem to 100% strenght and let the docked container vanish .
However, problem 2 still exists as it takes pretty long for the freighter to dock to a pod.
My solution for this would be to allow the cargo pods to move slowly , like 5m/s or so.
This would allow to park the freighter on top of a cluster of pods, and move the pods to the freighters docking port one by one. Think of it at small , remote maneavering thrusters on the pods.
I saw a similar thing in I-War 2.
I thought i mention it ... maybe
Cheers,
WyattMax

FS2 only lets one dockee per ship. Its annoying actually.
Right now we can't do much in that area. Maybe in the future.

But how can the freighters in FS2 (for example the Asmodeus) be docked with 4 Containers than, as it was in some missions?
Or is only one point "dynamic" so that is can dock und undock and the other are "static" and can only have containers from the start of the mission?
OR did the mission designers do something similar to WyattMax's solution?

Some FS2 ships have more than one docking point, although trying to utilize more than one at one time usually screws up the mission.

Yeah, like Deimos. It has two dockpoints one of each side, but it still doesn't allow more than one ship docking on it. Even FRED doesn't allow it.

I don`t believe any mission in the main campaign features a ship using more than one docking point at any one time.
However if the ship is to remain stationary you can fake it by placing the cargo pods next to the ship.

The world is a vampire....
Well, the pure technical details are probably something a source code programmer would have to address.
But as for the mission creation aspects of it... If you try and have Object A, which is already docked with Object B, to go dock with Object C, then Object A tends to "zoom" away at an absurd speed. As others have said, trying to have the ships start out docked with two or more objects can crash either FRED2 or FS2 upon loading the mission.
Basically, a lot of things can happen. Just nothing you want. Until the problem is remedied, it's not recommended you attempt to utilize more than one docking point on a single ship.

Slasher... That was a joke. But thank you anyway. To my count, there is now six posts saying the same thing. But thank you anyway. I am now ready to ask the smiley to turn his cool-looking-badass-blue-beam cannon towards me...

The SCP people at HLP are just now discussing this delima, but implamenting a few shouldn`t be a real problem...
As I understand the EA Freighter has 8 pods, now implamenting 8 docking points would be highly unlikely, but like I stated, its being looked into, we`ll see
