These are the same tips I posted at Summonerheads. But might as well, whoknows who else might want to read them
Well, off the top of my head...
One issue that came up recently for me (as well as for at least one other user I know of) was that at a certain key point (trying not to spoil anything for you, here), my Summon skill level was not high enough (I was at a *pitiful* level 4 in Summoning ). That was very annoying, as Maya was at level 21 by that time, and getting her up 3 more levels to max out the Summoning skill took a looooong time in the arena and was a major pain in the a$$. So make sure you don't neglect the Summon skill, cause... yeah.
Max Sangaril's Stealth ASAP, so that you can get the max EXP points on an early Stealth mission. I love that Sunken State/Backstab! Also, her Assassination Skill Paralyze is great, but you don't need it right away.
Get Morbazan's Soul Consumption skills maxed ASAP as you get him (and also his Concentration, so that you can rely on him for efficient magic use - I'm big on reliability). He has sooo much magic to choose from, so for his other magic/ability lists I just distributed evenly. Soul Restoration has come in handy in certain emergencies, and of course Freeze is nice to have if you're overwhelmed.
Max Yago's Heal & Concentration ASAP, since he (+ Morbazan, obviously) will prob. be one of your main magic users.
The Warrior Skills for Taurgis, Maia & Neru are very useful because they get that Recover ability.
Once Iari's D: Power Sources is maxed, she can equip two gems at once. Very good.
Distribute to the Nimble Attacks of the people you tend not to control directly in battle, or else they will screw around and spend too much time blocking & circling and such when on AI. Since I *usually* controlled the Caster or Healer of the party (except in some special circumstances), I did this for the Melees & Supports so that they could just go to town causing damage.
As far as Weapon Skills, I just tried to give fairly even point distribution, so that my characters would be adept with both options. Sangaril's bow might be slow, but it gets useful later on. And Taurgis gets that really wicked blunt weapon at one point... so I tried to be ready for anything, with weapons, basically.
All of the D: skills are actually good to give points to. You will end up immune to certain types of attacks, and most have built-in stat bonuses of some sort. Example: Maxing Neru's D: Fists is the equivalent of putting a Strength Talisman around his neck. But that can be saved for later, when you need to bulk up your characters for the big fights, I guess!
I can kind of see why this kind of stuff wouldn't bein the strategy guide, actually. Your strategy for Skill Points should be determined by what kind of characters you want to have. A lot of it is just your personal bias, and you only really learn by experimenting. So play around a bit with which abilities are most useful to your style of playing, which is what I've done so far.
Have fun!
