[SUMMONER 2] Skill Point Expenditure Tips

I bought the strategy guide for this game and one of the most disappointing things is the fact that it has NO TIPS on what skills to raise for the different characters!

It does not suggest which weapon skill to train for which character and it does not suggest what other types of skills each character should try to master.

That is a really important thing a strat guide should include, imho!

So, please share your suggestions for which skills are the best ones to raise for each character (and please explain why). THANKS! =)

These are the same tips I posted at Summonerheads. But might as well, whoknows who else might want to read them

Well, off the top of my head...

One issue that came up recently for me (as well as for at least one other user I know of) was that at a certain key point (trying not to spoil anything for you, here), my Summon skill level was not high enough (I was at a *pitiful* level 4 in Summoning ). That was very annoying, as Maya was at level 21 by that time, and getting her up 3 more levels to max out the Summoning skill took a looooong time in the arena and was a major pain in the a$$. So make sure you don't neglect the Summon skill, cause... yeah.

Max Sangaril's Stealth ASAP, so that you can get the max EXP points on an early Stealth mission. I love that Sunken State/Backstab! Also, her Assassination Skill Paralyze is great, but you don't need it right away.

Get Morbazan's Soul Consumption skills maxed ASAP as you get him (and also his Concentration, so that you can rely on him for efficient magic use - I'm big on reliability). He has sooo much magic to choose from, so for his other magic/ability lists I just distributed evenly. Soul Restoration has come in handy in certain emergencies, and of course Freeze is nice to have if you're overwhelmed.

Max Yago's Heal & Concentration ASAP, since he (+ Morbazan, obviously) will prob. be one of your main magic users.

The Warrior Skills for Taurgis, Maia & Neru are very useful because they get that Recover ability.

Once Iari's D: Power Sources is maxed, she can equip two gems at once. Very good.

Distribute to the Nimble Attacks of the people you tend not to control directly in battle, or else they will screw around and spend too much time blocking & circling and such when on AI. Since I *usually* controlled the Caster or Healer of the party (except in some special circumstances), I did this for the Melees & Supports so that they could just go to town causing damage.

As far as Weapon Skills, I just tried to give fairly even point distribution, so that my characters would be adept with both options. Sangaril's bow might be slow, but it gets useful later on. And Taurgis gets that really wicked blunt weapon at one point... so I tried to be ready for anything, with weapons, basically.

All of the D: skills are actually good to give points to. You will end up immune to certain types of attacks, and most have built-in stat bonuses of some sort. Example: Maxing Neru's D: Fists is the equivalent of putting a Strength Talisman around his neck. But that can be saved for later, when you need to bulk up your characters for the big fights, I guess!

I can kind of see why this kind of stuff wouldn't bein the strategy guide, actually. Your strategy for Skill Points should be determined by what kind of characters you want to have. A lot of it is just your personal bias, and you only really learn by experimenting. So play around a bit with which abilities are most useful to your style of playing, which is what I've done so far.

Have fun!

I did some experimenting while sparring and 2 points of swords did not seem to affect my damage at all. Are those skills a total waste or what?

I experimented also with parry and that actually did seem to reduce damage a decent amount.

What is this "recover" warrior skill people seem to be so high on? (I also hate how the strategy guide doesn't even explain what all the skills do or even what they all are... warrior skills are not even listed!!!!).

Any other tips?

The recover skill is attained by getting a high enough skill level on warrior. When used it recovers 80% of HP, I found this particualrly useful on Taurgis' solo mission in the Prisons of Indubal as he has no heal skills and potions and scrolls, will eventually run out.

Maia: Train Halassar combat up to 8 (hold off because there are magic items that raise it and you don't need more than 10), fire up to 3 (enchant fire and fire circle), and a few points in Summoning. As soon as you get D: Fire, raise it as much as you can (you can stop at 8 if you have a +2 D: Fire ring). D: Fire *rocks*.

Sangeril: Stealth 10 is a must for sunken state. That makes backstabbing and stealing MUCH easier. Poison 3 for snake poison is all you need for a LONG time. D: Cold is also *superb*, especially once you get an ice/cold weapon or the enchant cold ring. Raise assassination to get backstab but everything else can be gotten much, much later.

Taugris: I don't know much about this character as I avoid playing him. I think he is slow as crap and sucks. That said, Warrior 8 for recover is excellent and people say his Galdyr combat is worth maxing. After that, D: Fire is very good.

Krobelus: You will only use him sporadically but some points in Energy and Heal are very handy. They make him a decent support caster.

Neru: Neru friggin owns. Most importantly max D: Fists. Every point makes you hit harder. Get his Martial Arts to 10 for Phoenix Stance. Experiment with and make liberal use of Tiger, Turtle, and Phoenix Stances. Also train Martial arts up to at least 4 for whirlwind. Phoenix Stance + Whirlwind is *INSANE*. After that, sprinkling some points around in heal, steelskin, and willpower are all handy. Holy is weak.

Yago: Get his concentration up so he can be a reliable healer. I maxed his to 10. I also put a bit in heal so he can be a better support character.

Morbazon: maxed soul consumption and boosted his healing powers a bit. I don't use him much.
