XP Activation
I know this has nothing to do with Freespace, Volition or anything of the sort but i need to know:
Where is the Windows/Office XP Activation number stored after the software is activated. The reason I ask is mainly becasue I dont wish to deal with Microsofts tech support any further. Oh yeah, I also need to make my copy of office work on my new PC.
P.S. I'm not asking anyone to give me anything illegal (I think), I just want to know where to find the number (on my computer) S so I dont have to buy a new license.

um, on my dell its on the side of the tower. If you bought it separately from your computer (I.E. from a computer store) there should be a card with the stuff on it...its all shrink wrapped and has foil stamped on it...looks all fancy and ****...
About the office thing...the ONLY version of Office that will work on XP is Office XP...

Not quite, Miraxis. I run WinXP Pro and I use Office 2000. As for the activation number, you have to phone them up and write it down as they read it out to you. I didn't do that and I can still kick myself for not doing that (receives a nice juicy boot in the backside), as I may need to re-install windows from scratch (eg. formatting the disk for a clean start) and don't want to go through the hassle of phoning Micro-sod again.

I use Office 97 on Windows XP.
I think far too many people think that Office XP is Windows XP only. Its not at all, it works on the original Win98. And vice versa, old versions of Office work perfectly well on the new OS.

BINGO...although XP does come with some nifty features that aren't in any prev versions, but none of em is worth 200 bucks.....

I can tell you but then I'd have to kill you (actually, I'd know how to change it from inside out, but I couldn't tell you where the hell you see the current one you have)
And uhm...i had win2k/winME and officeXP, and winXP and office2k, and now winXP and officeXP so we'll stick to this
