Yeah...but if people want to make the forum interesting...then they have to take it apon themselves to do so. We provide the forum....you guys provide the content.
Posting 'Boring Boring Boring' doesn't help. And he's posted it how many times now? Too many to count.

The "BORING BORING BORING" post was only intended to cause harm to the place and start a flame war. The best way to prevent spam from filling the place was to just close the thread and put an end to that.

There's a difference between a post with content and a post without. All his post was was a troll designed to do little more than annoy. It was not designed to spark conversation, it was not designed to spark content.
It was also something I seem to remember him getting warned not to do...

Because we aren't iron fisted admins and if you guys need an outlet to communicate on a particular subject with the admins than this is not a bad thread.
This way...you can try and understand the reasoning why we do things the way we do.
If this thread is unimportant...it'll drop off the top of the list and disappear to the depths of the dead threads.

Actually, Vett is a pretty cool guy.
He is very pro Red Faction. If you actually knew who he was you would understand that.
But, alas, the moderators of these forums have no contact with the real RF community.
That's a shame. You've got a bunch of die hard fans out there who really love this game.

Well I'm not really as Red Faction centric as some others for sure...FreeSpace is more my thing and thats where I'll probably be staying (I still love RF, but im not quite as involved). We do lack some people with alot of RF community ties and so thats one of the things were looking for as new staff.
But what I'm mainly interested in right now is keeping things moving forward and I don't care who's book your in or how pro-RF you are...spamming "Boring Boring Boring!" as the only part to your message is not acceptable. It creates conflict and trouble.
He'll be back in about 4-5 days from now. Hopefully he'll stop writing messages about how boring this place is and keep contributing in the other ways that he has.

I dont know how to judge "vet", as I don't know him in real life. It's hard for me to interpret the mood, or general emotion of his posts. I must be confused, because (and i'll be honest) the general impression I get from his threads/replies/posts is that he's angry, disgruntled, things [V] ditched him and that everybody (especially us at VW) owe him something.
and when people come on to my turf (or our collective turf) with an attitude that we should give up something, albiet a minor thing such as time, to them... just peeves me.
Now "vet", if you're reading this and are formulating an opinion, or quite possibly an argument to this post of my opinion, you have my email address.

A lot of the community has a bad taste in it's mouth regarding the whole VBB. Vett is one of them. He also runs a server and showcases user-made maps. My experience is that the majority of the disgruntled have very little other online experience. All games have glitches, and Customer Service is NEVER what the consumer wants. (Ever try to get assistance from MicroSoft?)
Vett's post was honest. If you'd left it there someone would have either continued the rant....or posted something that wasn't boring. But you didn't give the thread a chance.....and in the process further alienated a consumer who is still heavily involved with the product.

I have been an FPS fan since the beginning of FPS. I have played Quake on line. I have played UT on line. I have played Renegade on line. I keep returning to RF. It's the only one I ever wanted to "master". Volition did something right cause I'm not the only one.
I love this game.
Do you?

Because this thread has actual content? Specifically, the initial post was a legitimate question, and NOT a troll.
cece: To address you directly, just being "pro RF" is not enough to hack it. There's still a standard of decent conduct that should be shared by everyone - and Vett repeatedly was rude, insulting, and had this tendancy to ignore the requests of the people who run this board.
I mean, it's kind of like going over to someone else's house ... you play by their rules.
Therefore, his post might've been honest, but it had no content. Not only that, but there's a difference between "honesty" and "impolite" ... say you have a person who's not, shall we say, a supermodel. And said person asks what you think of how they look. Now, do you say "OMG YUO ARE LIEK A BIG FAT COW" or do you coach your opinion a little nicer?
So basically, sure he's an RF fan. That's great. But it doesn't mean he can sit here and berate us and act like a jackass just because he's a fan and expect no negative consequences for his actions.

Unfortunately what some of the iron fisted moderators do not realize is a little spam must be given to start something, honestly what is with this place? It reminds me of a doctors office, all sterile....
Take the VBB for example, the place was loaded with topics and people replied constantly. Reasons why? RF'ers gathered to the red faction section to talk about mods to clans to poetry. They talked about EVERYTHING and V moderators only closed threads when a fight broke out between members. The place was a jewel in the forum world. Now its gone people come here, the sterile no spam no slack enviroment where if you get on the wrong side ofthe mods you get the boot...
Dont come here then? Dont worry I check this place once every 2 weeks or so, and even then only 4 posts have been made

yea, so what's so bad about the "no-spam, no-slack, if you piss us off too much you get banned" idea? seems to work fine to me ...
