It´s hard to figure out what is wrong. When you model it´s important in what order you create the brushes. If you are going to create a hollow box you must build the solid brush first and then the air brush. Keep that in mind when you add details inside the hollow box, so brushes don´t disappear because they are created in the wrong order. There are ways to fix this afterwards but can be very complex depending on how the rest of the room is created. Try to be aligned to grid. If you don´t it´s easy to get weird results. Don´t apply any textures until you have finished a model.
I guess you made a shaft with an air brush. Create a solid for the elevator and an air inside to make it hollow. This should work if it´s done in this order
