Question FRED2 Questions

Well, I'm assuming this is the right forum to ask, if there is a specific FRED2 forum, please let me know.

Q1: How do I make it so that the player is locked (ie, no engines, no weapons, etc), until a certain point in time, at which time he's left to his own devices? Apparently I can't really mess with the player's subsystems with SEXp (except for making them random), so how do I do it?

Q2: Is there any way to negate the support ship until a certain point in the mission, where it becomes available once more?

Q3: Is there an easier way to make briefings? What if I want to make an icon of a ship that doesn't exist in the mission (misinformation, for instance)? Or is the FRED2 Briefing editor the only thing out there?

I've been having a great time with FRED2, making missions is harder than I thought, but it's the only editor, so, hey, we make do, right? A bit disappointed I couldn't put three Sathanas against six Colossus (I don't know if it crashed then, or when I tried adding something like 60 fighters. So I wanted a slaughter, big deal).

-D

Just go ahead and do it the way you tried. You may have to type in alpha 1 manually instead of choosing it from the popup menu. Fred complains at you but it will work in the game. FRED has several errors that actually don`t do anything in game. The main reason is to prevent you accidently crippling alpha 1 when you actually meant to cripple alpha 2.

If you disable support ships then even if you put one in manually it won`t dock with you any more. There may be a way around this but I can`t think of it at the moment.

Simply pick a ship and then change the details. Label, Icon image, Ship type and even team can be changed without having any effect on the actual ship in the mission. You can even make the entire briefing from one ship picked multiple times.

What you were trying to do is commonly refered to as a Battle of Endor mission (after the battle in Star Wars). Don`t do it. Most people make one the first time they play with Fred. We've all seen them and though they may look good they either crash the game or are very boring to play.
