Asimov
Does anyone know which part of the Starliner Asimov rotates? You've got that big ball in the middle with the hanger embedded in the front and the slightly raised middle section with the windows on the edge. Does the whole ball rotate? Or just the raised section in the middle? If the whole ball rotates how far back towards the engines does the rotating section go? Any offers?

If I remember right... it was the whole big ball thingy rotating. At least that is what my memory recalls.

I only remember seeing one "band" moving around the circumferance of the ball. Of course there could be different variations. One for cargo-smaller rotating section, one for passengers-larger rotating section.
Note: this thread has the potential to get real dirty, real quick.

Only half of the ball rotates (the front).
I remember this from the episode in which Marcus and Franklin (was the doctor Stephen Franklin? God, I don't remember these things! I must watch B5 again.) travel to meet the Mars resistance. You get a good look at Asimov from behind...

Ok. We've got a split decision here. Tomcat's existing model has the front half of the ball rotation up to and including the middle band. After looking at the model I came to the conclusion that only the band should rotate. Whilst opinions on this board seem to fall between the same two conclusions.
Let's try a different tact here. In which episodes do we get a good view of the Asimov? I'd like to take a look at the footage in the series myself. That'll tell me for sure either way.

YOU are right ET1.. only the band rotates(including the windows).. this is clear from the episode "Racing Mars".

I told you that is not 100% accurate model...hell none of here is....there might be many variations of this one.. Bigger rotation ball means more passagers...smaller ball = more cargo space..
BTW ..we need spikes on it to have PSI Corps base ship(an asimov with spikes)

I strive for as near to 100% accuracy as possible in the alotted number of polygons with my models. Of course in this case I have to remodel the ball slightly in order to uv map it. Improving the accuracy of the rotation at the same time is no extra effort. So the question becomes, why not do it?
Looks like we've got some sort of a consensus on the rotating parts here anyway. The middle band only rotates. Sounds sensible. It means the front command module and the rear engine module are both connected to non-rotating parts of the ball.
(Best Mr Burns voice) Excellent!

The changes to LOD0 are now made. It looks great now. Much better. Dear god though, this thing is a nightmare to uv map. Consider this. 16 face circumference on the ball. 6x repeating pattern on the ball textures. Nasty. I'll figure out a way of doing it though. Mark my words. I'll have to as I'll have the same problem with Babylon 5's LOD1 and I promised Cpt White I'd do that.
