To help expand my skills in modding for freespace 2 mods, I've been thinking in learning how make missions in the FRED2 Editor.

Are there any guides or tutorials about the internet that would give me a head start?

The tutorial that comes with Fred 2 is great and demonstrates most of the features that you need to use. Just substitute the Freespace 2 ships for TBP ships and voila, a basic TBP mission. The tutorial also has detailed notes on how each function in the program works and should answer most questions you have.

...the walkthrough however can be found in your Freespace2\data\freddocs directory...if you don't do that one completely you'll never understand it!

pff it is so easy, I leaned for myself in a couple of days, all sexp's are quite mathematical, editors are self explanatory,no big deal, the only thing you need to learn really is to make them interesting in terms of strategy, not just action packed.
