DirectX
Is it possible to downgrade my DirectX version from 8 to 7a. I know it sounds real stupid and all, but it's the only way to get something to work. Whenever I try to install 7a it says no installation is necessary, and technically it's right but is there a way to get past this?

DirectX is just a pain in the ass in general. I don't see why MS didn't make the stuff more backwards compatible.

The last time I played with one of those (way back when I actually used Win98 seriously) I had to resort to a full reinstall anyway so it was a waste of time...

Thanks for the suggestions. Turns out the problem could be solved with a few patches.

Someone should have told Microsoft that...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle.asp
They've implemented a downgrade licence program for people who really must use an OS thats past its use by date. The way it works is that you buy a licence for a supported OS (say Windows XP) and then downgrade it to one for an unsupported OS (say Windows 98).
