Nial version 4
"Another version of the Nial?!?" I hear you ask.. and yes, it's true.. I started work on this retextue because I wanted to use the model in a uni project, and therefore it had to be all my own work.. I showed it to the TBP team and have now promised to finish it..
Anyway, without further ado, here's the newest incarnation of the heavy Minbari fighter you all know and get shot down by:

Lookin good. How many polys, and should we expect to see it in the next release?

looks good but how's the frame rate? Does it run well on a lower end system?

Its exactly the same model as before with slightly less texture memory. And all of our models will employ the smooth shading technique so you probably won't notice most of the polys like you do now. The render will always be a bit better...but the game version will be close.

Nial v. 3 was modelled by Xaphod and textured by Cptwhite.
but the Nial you see above is the same model as v. 3 but also textured by xaphod

quote: actually ice, nial version 3 wasn't released
I thought it was in the Patch.
In either case, performance issues shouldn't be worried about. Its virtually the same in terms of polys as whatever you've seen before.

actually your all wrong , this is v5
back in the dawn of time we had nail v1, i have no idea who was involved with it, i suspect wingnut (quote people saying "wingnut, huh?" )
nial v2 was bob's effort and textures, this too wasnt ever released
nial v3 was bob's model and haderaks textures, this is current released version, a half decent attempt
nial v4 was xaphods model and my texturing, currently the internal version
now this one is v5, xaphods models AND hand made textures, i think its a different style to mine (v4) i like them both, but probably gow with v5 as it looks more detailed and is solely the teams work.
the current model used (3rd actual model shape) is better lodded than the current version (less polys on lod1 etc) and will help lower end systems no end.

a brief history lesson
well, I don't have the v1 that cptwhite mentions, but:
v2 (by bob, apparantly):
v3 (the released version, bob's model & haderak's texturing):
v4 (internal version, my model & cptwhite's textures):
and now v5 at the top, which is all by me.
Oh by the way the textures for this aren't hand made, they're made from renders of Mark Kane's Lintira model, heavily modified..
