FreeSpace Watch: Mike Kulas Speaks Again
Posted by IceFire:
Mike Kulas posted this on the SquadWar Forum:
1)Interplay is responsible for supporting FreeSpace 2 with the exception of online (not merely multiplayer, but online) support, including Squad War. FS2 online and Squad War are supported by Volition.
2) We have no plans to create another game in the FreeSpace universe. Interplay has the right to do so and we have the first option to do the development. I doubt Interplay has plans to create another installment in the FreeSpace universe. Sorry -- this probably bothers us as much as anyone, but the marketplace spoke on this issue.
3) I don't know if/when more coop missions will be validated. It is a lot of work for us to validate missions and it has invariably involved back and forth communication. If it was merely a matter of playing through a mission a few times, there would be a lot more validated missions.
4) We are paying more attention to Squad War. There's only so much we can do. I hope you'll be satisfied.
I guess the conclusion is that there will not and probably will never be another FreeSpace game produced. The series had a great run and its a shame that there will never be another, especially in light of the ending of FreeSpace 2. FreeSpace Watch will remain open however, there are still numerous MODs, Campaigns, and with the possible release of FS2 source code, there is still life left with this game.
Its a sad day for FreeSpace fans, but its a day we all knew was coming.
