Want B5 cheap?

Info for UK people

I was in Hull today, and went to "The Works Publishers Outlet" discount bookstore.. lo and behold - lots and lots of B5 VHS tapes - new, ranging from the pilot right through to series 5...

The good bit? They were a mere £3 each.. and buy one get one free as well, so basically £1.50 each

I bought 4 and got 4 free; my sister got one, and I got her free one cause she didn't want any of the others...

The lady in the shop said that any other branches of "The Works" should be running the deal if they have the stock.

We have two in Nottingham, and there are at least two in Sheffield and two in Leeds.

It is a large national company

Unlikely, B5 on VHS is now out of print, hence the sale of the videos. I think that this is Warner Brothers admitting that they will (eventually) release all of B5 on DVD and committing all of their resources to this re-release.

I hope they're not jerks and they put an entire season on each DVD. I hate buying 4 episodes on a single disc when I *know* they can fit more on there

Four 42 minute episodes may actually be pushing the capacity of the DVD, especially when you consider the extras being included (like multiple language soundtracks). Eight episodes may fit but I doubt an entire series.

Anyway, they would be seriously cutting their profits if they released an entire series on one DVD. Fewer people would buy it compared to all of the potential 2/4 episode DVD sales. Never forget, in WB's opinion if a fan is going to buy the entire series they will do it regardless. If the fan is a casual fan then they will not fork out £80+ just for one DVD.

Double-sided discs.

Seriously. I have no problem if they put out, say, a six or seven disc 'set' (e.g. 1 for each season, 1-2 for all the movies and stuff) and charge me an insane amount of money for it - but I don't want to spend like $100 just to get a single season.

Look at how HBO does the Sopranos - the entire season in a set, pretty cheap. That's what I want to see.

Because we don't beat people with sticks? Ooooooooo!

...sorry.
As for why, um, maybe it's because Singapore's not as big a market for these things as the US and UK. Or maybe these Brits just got really lucky.

We also got lucky in that in Britain we got a full VHS release as and when the episodes were screened on TV

Or probably the nasty customs that UK always Follows the US into everything... pff Brits... it almost looks like the UK is merely a province of the US or a colony, 250 years ago but all upside down...

The US didn't get a full VHS release of the videos first time round. I think they (much) later got a full release but this was in 1999ish IIRC and not done very coherently.
