everything, you can't have a good model without stable geometry, you dont have a good model without attention to detail, and you dont have a good model without good textures. In the case of capitalships, you dont have a good model without good turrets and well placed ones at that.

Asthetics and texture detail is first. Texture effectiveness is maybe the right word....effective textures are better than too highly detailed textures.

Then you want the model to actually work

I'd switch those two. a sexy mdel that doesn't work is no model at all. But it needs to look cool, because if it doesn't than why would I want it.

You could have the best design but if its textures look crap then the whole model looks bad aswell.....

I know I look for models that work above all. I`ve just finished one of my models and while I wouldn't mind putting it in missions with bad textures I do mind putting it into the game while you can fly through it.

Yes, "magic" models do make me a little upset. One other thing, I'm no modeler, so I hate getting told that "This is a great new ship!". Only to find out it is only half skinned, and isn't even a .pof. But you guys don't mind those, do you? I know aldo does a lot of those, gives you guys something to do.

If you release a ship it should be finished.

If you dump a load of models like Aldo just did then only those interested in having unfinished ships should download them

Me I like to download unfinished ships cause I can look at how things were done and get inspiration from them.

Stablility is the order of the day - some of the ships that I've downloaded have a very strange transition at random intervals.

I can see them, but I can't hit them and can even fly right through them. Beams still hit them though. When this happens to a frigate with three Ultra AAA's it can be damned irritating.

Oh, and they've got to be long and sleek, not tall and blocky.

Hey! I only dump the ones I can't be bothered / don't have a reason to finish.

The one thing I tend to check is how 'tight' the UV is - how well the texture maps line up, and whether there are any areas where it looks a bit 'squidgy'... also where someones obviously used too many reps or too large a UV (sometimes it's better to only use a portion of the whole map).

That and the quiality of the maps.

EDIT; Oh, and I also think no-one should ever release an unstable or imperfect model without labelling it as so.

I wasn`t having a go at you aldo. Hades was complaining about half finished models. I don`t mind downloading those as long as they are labelled as being unfinished (like your modelpump was).

What is annoying is when you download a model that the author releases and only when you`ve downloaded it discover that it has no LOD's, Debris or paths.

If you release an unfinished ship you should state that it is unfinished. If you get it put up on VW archives or a site like that it should definately be finished. Places like VW should be for ships that people can just download and put into the game without having to find a modder to finish it.
