A Performance Question

I have a very very bad comp

AMD K6-2 500mhz 3dnow
192 Ram
8mb ATI Rage Pro Turbo

Will Blackwater opts be a Steep Performance drop from the original umodded FS2?
FS2 Ran fine on the highest Detail level possible, ut i'am not sure with blackwater ops, with all those new textures and backgrounds.

that system is a little bit better than mine and I'm running it fine (well it's a little bit more choppy but I haven't got all the LODs done yet), you may need to turn down the LOD distance and\or texture resolution if high framerates are more important to you.

Your computer is pretty fine with exception of your video card. Which you should junk and use as a paperweight. I know new ones aren't cheap, but anything you can get nowadays is better than a 8mb ATI card.

The new backgrounds are my biggest concern at the moment and I might offer two versions of the backgrounds. The ones at 512x512 and some 256x256 versions.

That depends on if there is any performance loss after FS2 scales them down (without registry tweaks).

The Golgotha ran fine with alot of ships on my old PII 233, 64mb RAM and a RivaTNT so you shouldn't have alot of issues.

If its even going to make a difference. At this point in time I don't know.

If FS2's scaling to 256x256 which normally occurs when using larger textures doesn't impact on performance or only has very slight impacts, then there's no point.

If it does have a large and significant impact, then both versions will be created. No skin off my back.

To get 512x512 textures and backgrounds, you need to have a registry hack anyways.
