There might not be any fancy nebulae being shown, but here's two shots from a recent test:

The Balius is done save for adding in the subsystems and some last texture tweaks. The turrets are all fully functional and give the ship a plethora of anti-fighter and bomber defenses which put an Aeolus to shame.

The Yaaru is finished except for shield icons and interface art, some minor texture detailing might be done however as well. It's beam cannon does work, though you'll have to wait a bit before I show off that effect 
Overall, the mods that are going to impress you will be done after X-Mas.
An interesting little thing on the Yaaru though, it uses bomber AI for it's various turret defenses. But when this AI is given a ship with fighter capacity and the AI set on high levels, it loves doing dives on capital ships.
However with fighter speeds, it uses it to dodge opponents instead of attacking the ship, which leads to some interesting battles
