Question Geforce 3 and FreeSpace 2

I'm dying to get my hands on this mod!!!
It looks sweet!!!

Anyway.... Is anyone having trouble with FreeSpace 2 using a Geforce 3 card?
The text on any screen doesn't look right. I get weird artifacts..
Also, the sound gets a bit choppy..

I am running Windows ME on a P3-1ghz, 512RAM,
Geforce3, and Sound Bastard Live X-Gamer.

Yes, I beleive that I have the latest drivers for everything and DirectX 8.0a.

Any Ideas??

Hrmm...not really...except that the Drivers might be the problem and that they will get better as time goes on.

Thats always the case. GeForce 2 drivers are starting to get pretty good now but they weren't nearly as good before. Its part of the evolutionary process.

Heck....by the time GeForce 4 or whatever it is comes out (I'm not talking about TI either) some games might take advantage of GeForce 3 and its drivers will be ready.

GeForce 3, eh?

Hmmm... try installing 20.80 drivers which you can get at http://www.m3dzone.com and then try playing the game.

If it doesn't help then go to http://www.geforcefaq.com which contains troubleshooting for every kind of errors with GeForce cards. I'd suggest to try these...

Most of the cost of the GF3 is playing for that bloody ginormous cooling fan. Break out the marshmellows guys.

I feel left out, I only have a Voodoo Banshee still it does the trick for now, when it is necessary to buy a new 3D card I will, first things first I want a mic and a few pints, I'm glad there is a pub near me that does pints for £1, that's right £1

TalonHunter, as CptWhite and Black Sheep said, it is the anti-aliasing. I had the same issue when I had the anti-aliasing set on Quincunx, but when I switched to "allow applications to choose" it went away and works perfectly. Although, I also have a SB Live X-Gamer and I never had any problem with the sound, before or after switching the AA, so I don't know what to tell ya there.

Faster in what? 32-bit? 16-bit? Low-res? High-res? You can't just make a blanket statement like that - especially with ATI's mislabelling going on - buy a retail card and you get core memory 30MHz faster than OEM (for some models, anyway). That's some serious bs right there

In overall performance.

Edit: Well early tests and comparisons have shown that when released Radeon 8500 can kick GF3's arse in most games.

Yeah, a lot faster than a GF3. Oh wait, did the GF3 beat it in 1600x1200x32? Why yes it did! And this is before the official (21.81) Det4s came out, so add some points because of those. 20.80s aren't as fast as 21.81s, I have some numbers on that if you care.
(To be fair, ATI's drivers for the Radeon 8500 have also improved, so I imagine these benchmarks would be very similar today, maybe higher numbers, but proportionally the same.)

Sorry...can't say it's "A lot faster" when facts don't support it.
I have nothing against ATI - nor nVidia - but I dislike blatant fanboyism. I prefer nVidia because of driver support and 3D gaming, nothing more. Now, with the Radeon 8500 coming out, I'm re-evaluating, since it does look really cool. But I won't be getting a new 3D card until the GeForce 5, or something like that. ... so whatever. Truform is a neat idea, have you seen some of those comparison shots? Not bad.

someon asked what they mean by faster/better

Radeon 8500 has a faster clockspeed 250 and 275mhz I think (Geforce3 is 233mhz), and its also compliant with ALL DirectX8.1 components (geforce 3 is not), tho those will probably not be implemented in the life of these cards...

TNT2 all the way!
