Storyboard writing

So , if you want to create a campaign , then I suggest do it like me unless you find an even better way :

1. Create a story arc in your mind For example , lets asume you are writing a Centauri campaig. Then you should make a brainstorming and imagine what will be in your campaign , when it takes place , what races are involved , and so on.

2. Write it down. The basic storyarc will be told by the whole campaign . E.G. like this
- Campaign takes place after the foundation of the ISA.
- Player starts as a pilot in the Centauri Imperial Navy.
- At first some routine missions, then when the war breaks out player gets assigned to a Primus with the mission to defend a star system , intercepts Drazi scouts and scouts the perimeter of the system in Hperspace
- Then the player repells a major Drazi attack
- The Primus starts an attack against a Drazi depot in the vicinity
- Investigations have brought up rumours of attacking Centauri vessels that are attacking League-ships
- The Primus has several missions to defend a jumpgate
- Then the player gets assigned to an escort squadron for Centauri transports
- Later he is transferred to force reconaissance and picks up a large Narn & Drazi fleet heading for Centauri Prime...

3. When you have the brainstorm script ready you write the script which also contains info on possible cutscenes and characters in the missions :

Mission 1 : title
Briefing : You have been assigned to a Primus to defend Ragesh 3
Mission : Several ships are in the system ...
...........
.... then a Drazi scouting party arrives . Mission ends when they are destroyed .

Mission 2 : title
Briefing : You are told that ...........
Mission : The mission starts with ..... then after 5 minutes ........ Drazi arrive and the primus jumps out to ........ via Stellarcomm your Commander tells you to attack all Skyserpents......
............ and then they flee .

CUTSCENE : Showing a Centauri fleet , Drazi ships jump in and they destroy a civilian transport .

Mission 3: title
Briefing : .........
Mission : ...........

This will be the campaign script . When it is ready you may still be willing to apply changes .
Next step are the In-Detail scripts of the missions. Here you describe EVERY SINGLE EVENT .

Mission 1 :
Briefing : ( hold by War Minister ) : "Welcome pilots . You have been transferres to ......"
Mission : the mission setting:
Primus ( Valerius )
6 Sentri fighter in close escort
2 Vorchans
3 Drazi Sunhawks
12 Skyserpents
the Mission starts : all Centauri ships are cloe to each other , no enemies in sight .
PRIMUS : OK , pilots , stay sharp ! We think the Drazi may ....
Lt.Dorani : Ready Command . Man , Not as funny as shooting narns ...
Lt Dorwan : Yes . Lets hope the Drazi can't handle their ships.
.
.
.
-- 3 Sunhawks jump in at a distance of XXXX , they are accompagnied by 12 Skyserpents . They are all heading for the Centauri defenders
Lt Dorani : There they are !
PRIMUS : Pilots , Intercept the Skyserpents and clear the way for our Vorchans so they have a clear shot at the Sunhawks !
-- Battle brakes out , then happens .... this and then that .
Lt Dorani : Oh man ! They destroyed the Vorchan "Impudent" !
-- when all enemies are destroyed :
PRIMUS : Well done Pilots ! Come in and land , we picked up a transmission from ......
-- Mission ends when .........
DeBriefing : if ... then "Well done , you have secured......"
if Primus lost : mission failed .


In the end I have a large campaign script and for each mission an in-detail script so EVERYONE in the campaign team knows what has to be done.

Don't we kind of have to know what ships are going to
be released before thinking about campaigns? I mean
what is the point of me creating a detailed Drazi (as an
example) campaign if the Drazi ships are going to be some
of the last ones done? If, for example, we knew it was just going
to be Human and Minbari ships in the demo we could make
missions and campaigns around that, instead of wasting time
thinking about campaigns we won't be able to implement
until way down the line.
Possibly someone has already told us which ships are going
to be released, and in which order, and I have just missed it.
More than likely in fact. But if not then I hope you see my point.

Anyway, thanks for listening. Or should that be reading?

Well, I have almost finished the storyline for my Drazi campaign and I have one extra Drazi ship in it, Humble Modeller is willing to made it so I have no problems in that matter.

Hmmm. I will try my hand at a campaign this weekend...

Earth Civil War or Earth/Minbari war?

Something else I was wondering, I am not very familiar with the campaign structure in FS2, for instance, you have Mission A. If the player is successful with Mission A, they go on to Mission B. If the player is UNSUCCESSFUL in Mission A, do they go on to Mission C? Is it possible to structure a campaign this way in the game?

valen2k1 - yes.

and the full Earth Mimbari war campaign is being done for the second release I believe.

And zoobafoo, please say you don't mean with the player flying shadow vessels... if you're meaning the army of light vs the vorlons and shadows, then that's fine.

And following campaigns which are partially apart from the main B5 story:
Drazi campaign
Raider campaign

Hmmm. Not much left...

Do you want campaigns that are strictly canon as seen in the series? Like what about a campaign based on an Omega class destroyer and escorts on deep patrol that gets wrapped up in some sort of intrigue not seen in the series?

Also, do you guys model ships as required or is there a "master list" of all the ships you plan to model?

How about the Omega Squadron?

Hi guys! Not exactly a new viewer of the board, a new poster but not a new reader.

Anyways since this mod is looking extremely kick ass and the campaign question has arisen again I felt I should contribute my 2 pence.

I was thinking of Bester's Psicorps' Omega Squadron hunting down telepaths and being nasty sumbitches. I have a few preliminary thoughts on the outlying campaign and some cool stuff as well. Remember, Byron was once part of that squadron. He shouldn't be the main guy but the guy who went before him. You'd think Bester would only have one protege?

Fans can make anything they want, but if you want to make "official" campaigns that are released with the mod packages, then they must be good ones. The story can follow the main B5 story or you can make it apart from it if you want.

I am writing Narn - Centauri war script, that is a campaign that follows the main B5 story, but I am also writing my own Drazi campaign, you won't see Babylon 5 in it, neither any of the main cast, so this campaign is apart from the main B5 story.

I am not fully sure what campaigns we are gonna include in the packages, stories that were seen in the show such as EA-Minbari war, EA Civil war, Narn-Centauri war and such will be included. I am still quite sure that at least one campaign for each (non-firstones) race will be made and included in the packages.

Oh well, only time will tell what we have in our hands and what not. So, sleep easy.

Hmmm, I'm leaning toward a Teep War campaign now. I remember that there were other Psi Corps ships besides the Black Omega Squadron, a Psi Corps Omega class destroyer or Hyperion would be cool, Though it would require a new texture job....

Also, what is capable as far as cutscenes? Video, animations or can only the game engine be used?
