Some of you may be totally pissed by the title, but it's actually been known for quite a while that Red Faction won't support hardware transform and lighting. However, yesterday, the chumps over at Voodoo "We'll give your game a shot in the nuts in hopes for some PR materials to the" Extreme made the following post quoting things from the VBB:

Just fishing through Volition's official Red Faction forums (the PC flavor) and spotted a couple of posts regarding hardware T&L support (or now, lack of) in Red Faction. -- here's one of the comments on it, along with Todd's response:

Was support for it removed? Because several individuals from V have said that it will support TnL Including this article.

Yes, back then (over 6 months ago?) we were going to do T&L. Unfortunately things change, and we no longer will be adding support for it.

This post angered a lot of viewers there because they thought Volition was just being completely lazy. Who knows, maybe they are. Oh wait, no, they probably aren't. Here's Volition's which was posted on VE today:

Red Faction will not feature T & L because not all cards out there support it -- we would then have to either not make the title available to all gamers by requiring T&L or run the risk of maintaining two different renderers during development. We're really satisfied with the performance we've gotten on a T&L card without taking advantage of said feature, though, and thus we chose to write the one renderer we're using now that's fast enough for all the cards we support. As developers, we like and appreciate T&L but didn't want to make the assumption that it would be supported on all user hardware at this time.

Now, if that wasn't enough, the PR dudes over at THQ provided 3 screens from the PC version of Red Faction. Hi-res screenshots make me happy. They make Voodoo Extreme happy too. Voodoo Extreme will probably not be lame and post bad things about Red Faction for a while now that they have three perdy screenshots to gander at. Yay.
