Alan Lawrance made a post to the VBB regarding how the art of picking up dropped weapons and/or searching bodies for goods:

You will certainly be able to pick up weapons from dead AI. If you already have the weapon, you'll empty the clip out. No more weapons to bullets transmutation.

As for searching bodies, this how it will work:

1. When you get close enough (and are facing) a dead body, a small HUD pop-up will tell you what was on the body (you automatically take what you find). The same is true for weapons on the ground (the HUD popup will indicate what weapon you found and how much ammo was in the clip).

2. Pressing Use when facing a corpse will cause you to pick up the body. This comes in handy during the undercover missions, when you have make sure bodies aren't discovered by patrols.
