Actually...that glow effect can happen around a planet. I'm pretty sure its just part of the bending light around a gravitational source. In any case, its a commonly accepted art form for planets and it darn well looks cool.

The beam is just something that Kazan has been tinkering with. We'll have some really nice looking beams and pulse cannons as things go along. No offense to Kazan, but he's more of a programmer than an artist too, but the beams aren't bad.

i know the light can spead around in a glow dn back lighting from teh moon and stuff but its normally abit dimmer towards teh darkside - but the poitn i was most trying to make is that its not centered on the planet correctly - looks liek there is a thicker atmosphere over one area than another

i'm not putting it down or anything i just thought maybe some contructive critisism might be appriated -also i have a nice bacground of eart from a different angle - its over africa - taken from one of the apollo missions i think i want to say 17 but it was probally an earlier one

also if you want any help with putting guns and special points on fighters - doing teh trails for the nebulas - i can even create some quite good weapons too - i would love to help out anyway i can

You are correct...i said i aligned the atmosphere manually ......its that way because its better than having a black space between the atmosphere and the planet...it only over laps by about 1.5 pixels on the bright side....this was about as accurate as it could be placed....i think it is a very minor niggle....you get a bright strip where the atmosphere touches the planet surface of the left...i think it looks good that way....

there is also an optical illusion there because its lighter on the left the atmosphere seems thinner because the contrast towards the planet is less...the colour of the atmosohere stands out better on the right

B5 beams aren't as easy as you think - they all have a certain transparent quality and have a almost mottled appearance -and with the effect being streched all along the beam - i now have an earth alliance beam that looks ok close range but looks to solid at longer ranges

transparency on effects bitmaps is 100% black = 100% transparent.. the renders "adds" the layered colors of effects and other objects

yeah jsut noticed that while playing around abit - my first beams i was trying to use black to black out bits from the other effects but it didn't work but i found a better way to create the effect i was after anyway and now have a descent EA beam which i suppose will do for the narn too

i also have myself a shadow beam - i dont think i will be able to get it quite right since the effect is stretched so mach - i am operatiing under teh assumptions there is no way to change that - if one of you knows how to change that then please let me know becasue then i could make the shadow beam look damn good
