I dont understand, what's the problem with making UV-space ????
just like texturing per face , just instead of paintface you click unwrap....
then make the texture....
..and then you click paintface instead of unwrap.

Hmm..
Texturing isn' really THAT hard....
Some don't like it , but it is not very complicated.

UV mapping is like taking snap shots of the picture or from different angles. Top, Bottom, Side (just one side can be used to paint both sides if the ship is symetrical), front, back etc.......you then open these pictures (Truespace creates a sketch of the view...and texture it in PSP or Photoshop...im a PSP man myself) like this....

this is the back fin of a white star
and here it is on the model...this used a generic texture...i was experimenting and was just for fun....but it shows you how it looks....the altered picture directly relates to the bit of the model......you can do this with truespace before conversion to pof and pcx file, or after...i work after to cut out the conversion bit.......i use fs2view to use my models and see how they look after ive textured them.....and dont worry...i dont make them from scratch i just import and position rendors of the ships i get and just tweak them to look as good as possible....anyway the whitestar......

and this was a bit of the sharlin that i did.....

basically all the work is done if people do the UV mapping for you......im not sure about this myself. there are under details you need to know...but anyone is capable of what i do.....its all 2d work using PSP, so get involved...we aren't professionals....we're just like everybody else in here and we do need help to progress faster

Texturing requires.

1. few knowledge about the file formats and the way the models are included in FS2.
2. Basic knowledge in Truespace , for this check out the tutorial our link refers to.
3. Fair knowledge in a paint-program like PSP or Photoshop. This is something you can't through reading a tutorial , it has to do with experience. You should just play around with the program for quite a while. Perform little tasks you think of and so on...

We can help you and introduce you to the tools and the procedures. If you wanna join us , tell me:

However , IceFire and Eternal One are the project leaders and it is not up to me to decide who can join the team. But I can be your ambassador.

For you Lightning, PSP is no doubt easier to learn to play with and it's also a hell lot easier to use. I find Photoshop rather clumsy in basic picture editing. So I recommend PSP, there are only few (if any)things you can't do with PSP that you can with Photoshop so that shouldn't be an issue...
And now I'm gonna quit this PSP-enthusiasm, before you bore to death reading this babble

Well, if we have people applying UV maps and sending the maps to the people who are more artistic putting the textures on the maps...then we have a nice process.
