Mystery of the Capellan supernova... solved?!?

As I read the following, my mouth hung open for a bit... it fits all to well (bold is my emphasis):

Taken from: http://sciastro.net/portia/articles/auriga.htm

quote:

Northeast of the giant red star Aldebaran, (see column, "Taurus, the Bull") you can see the bright yellow star, Capella (pronounced cuh-PELL-uh). This star forms the northeast corner of a large irregular hexagon of stars. This hexagon represents Auriga, the Charioteer.

Auriga (pronounced oh-RYE-guh), and the star Capella, were identified in Greek mythology with the goat that nursed the infant god Zeus. According to the myth, while playing with the animal, the baby god broke off one of its horns, to which he later gave the magical capability of dispensing great quantities of food and drink to whoever desired them - the cornucopia. The charioteer in the constellation is usually represented carrying two, or three, goat kids on his shoulder. Capella comes from the Latin word for "little she-goat".

I know this is pure speculation, but think about it: Capella - the goat that nurses the infant god (some unimaginable Shivan weapon/plan/you name it?) Zeus!

And that part about the broken horn being given magical capabilities of dispensing food and drink; just like much of the speculation about the nebula providing the Shivans with natural resources...!

And the real Capella is a set of red giant stars, totally unlike the one from FS2.

I know, but isn't it a neat possibility if that's what Volition was thinking of when they wrote out the whole storyline?

I don't know... It's problably a thing that we will never know, because, first there won't be a Freespace 3 that will answer that (I'd hope there was), and second, this is Sci-fi, wich means that there may come a lot of ideas, and all of them can be correct, because it doesn't exist in reality and we can make up with anything...
So we can consider your idea correct

Not entirely true. There are facts and inferences we can make from the FreeSpace story. Using those, we can make educated guesses on any of the mysteries in the game.

Not every single theory that has been suggested is even remotely following those facts or inferences and therefore are less correct or blatantly incorrect.

Sci-Fi does give you alot of ways of going about a problem and the solutions can involve any number of things (technology, people, natural events, etc). This doesn't mean all of them are going to fit a particular story or theme.

The whole point of sci-fi is to depict the future but also to leave questions about what will happen next. Startrek is a classic example: TNG-What will happen in the rest of the trial of humanity? DS9-What happens to Cardassia and the Dominion? VOY-Why the hell did they **** up Seven's character (and what will happen now they are home)?

B5 does this also. What will happen to the alliance, the Shadows etc.

There's an endless list of examples and the reason is, a good story has no ending. Good stories end an event while leaving the universe in which they are based intact for further development and they usually end with things looking up and on a high note. And that my friend is why the Earth-Delta node was destroyed in FS1 and why Capella went nova in FS2.

Volition may have known that FS was going to bomb, probably after seeing Interplays marketing plan before the game had finished development. There may be an unseen ending where a single sath charges towards the fleet. But that ending was scrapped in favour of a one which posed more questions than it answered to keep the modding alive.

In short, we may never know what happened at Capella but that is the single greatest thing keeping the FS community alive. And also, many questions are never answered. Maybe V were making a subtle metaphorical statement about the fact that some mysterious will forever be... unsolved.

*standing ovation while many audience members weep openly*

Thank you. Thank you.

Excellent comments there Fattony.

Voyagers ending was about family, taking care of them, and how much emphasis you should place on just your "family" and not everyone else.

The episode also asks what happens when (*SPOILER ALERT*) someone from the future changes the past in such a massive way.

I get it... If you had to translate "Little she goat" then you would get "Poco ella cabra". Cabra poco ella.

Well, some people haven't seen more than ten episodes all together and are doing the best they can to avoid stumbling across spoilers and the like until they can see the whole kit-n-kaboodle, so can we get back on topic, or at least a different topic?
