Shivan Civil War

Now there's something you don't see every day. We've seen plenty of Vasudan rebelious factions, enough Terran revolutionaries to make your head spin, but those darn Shivans always put up a united front! How about a rebellious Shivan faction that is in conflict with the Shivan Overmind (or whatever they have)? The point of conflict could be something already encountered, like communications being held with Terrans (NTF's ETAK, Warzone's Adm. Russik).

After all, when was the last time you saw a Sathanas blow a Ravana away?

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot: All you wanna-be spammers need to read this! You too, Snipes!

The Shivans have more important things to do than be concerned with petty human traits imposed upon them by mission designers and fan fiction writers.

Oh, yeah, I forgot - they have more advanced forms of traitors and rebels, not the primitive kind we humans get...

No...Ace is right...we don't even know if most Shivans posses anything more than simple instinct. Perhaps instinct isn't the word...or maybe it is. They fly and fight with spacecraft like birds know howto fly through the air. Perhaps a small number of them actually can think...and even then, its probably just a collective guidance based on needs and imperatives.

A rebellion would be impossible because they don't swear allegiance to anything except their instincts.

Ice - I know, and agree even - I was just giving Ace a hard time...

But you can have Bosch's and Russik's Shivans fighting the rest of 'em, can't you? I mean, I simply can't believe that full Admirals went bonkers just like that and tried to make an alliance with the Shivans... couldn't it have been simply that they wanted to use the Shivans hive-mind "limitation" and controllability against them? That they really did want to protect humankind, like they said, but it was their methods that weren't approved of by the GTVA and not their goals?

If the Shivans have a hive collative. Think of the Borg from Star Trek in a sense they are similar in anther since there not. If anyone here every watches Star Trek Voyager there was a Rebellion in the Borg collative staring with Unimatrix 0 it is like a place were people are free from the Borg collative well at least until they wake up from there sleep cycle. And what about Star Craft if anyone ever played that computer game. The Zerg have a hive mind. But there was a rebellion. So how says its not possible for hive collative minds not to have rebels.

Simple instinct if they have a Simple instinct to destroy were the h--- did they get the technology that they have. I don’t figer a Snake with it simple instincts going to fly a ship to blow people up. So what you are saying does not make since to me. my be you can explain this.

Good points, Dredhawk. However, you contradict yourself in a way - the Borg are a hive mind that most definitely uses technology!

Yes, but shivan do not assimilate technoligy as far as we know. they never tried anyway.

They do not invent it.

If they neither assimilate nor invent their tech, where do they get it from?

Anyways, I was simply pointing out that the Borg, who are a hive-mind, use technology. Just because the Shivans use technology doesn't mean that they're not a hive-mind.

However, I think that what people think of as more "accurate" is that Shivans use technology the same way that humans and monkeys use opposeable thumbs. It comes naturally. I.E. the Shivans are spacefaring because that is their natural habitat. Humans need all sort of special apparatus to do anything of use underwater, but fish use their gills naturally.

for whoever said that the shivanss have never "assimilated" technology:

Not that we know of, Why would a race superior to us steal our puny tech?

Plus; Did they not use the Knossos? Or did we f*ck with all of them too?

The most probable reason for the Shivans being the way they are is by explaining them as being a genetically altertered or entirely created species.

The instinct for flying ships and making weapons and the like is the same thing as the aformentioned bird flying through the air (a birds brain can still manipulate its flight geometry to match winds and whatnot, faster than any computer can BTW) and a hive of ants building a vast collection of tunnels in their nest. These are common place things for us, but applied on a much larger and more advanced scale, the Shivans are very much like that. It seems improbable that Shivans instinctively create spaceships, but if you really sit down and think about it, its pretty preposterous that a hive of ants can create a complex network of tunnels that protect them from heavy rain, wind, and other elements. They even organize their food. Thats impressive for such a simple creature.

The Shivans I say are similar in may ways to these references. Perhaps they were created like that, but the ultimate outcome is that they are simple beings in many respects and that there is no reason for dissention amongst a species who have no reason to be dissident about anything.
