Just a Thought

What if you were to make a massive station, like the Charon, and then make an mod of a turret that looked like fighters, but then, make a "blank gun" so load it with.
That or if you could do like the radar dish on the Fenris or the solar panels on the Frautus, and show damage like that, then you make them a subsystem, so when you locked onto it, it would say fighter instead of laser turret.
Cause I've always wanted to get the jump on a station, with massive amounts of fighters docked, and lay them to waist. Anybody get what I'm trying to say?

No? This is actually a good idea.

Using fighter models within say a fighter bay of a ship and being able to destroy them as "subsystems."

Having the Charon (though I know it is mostly finished) modified to have large internal fighterbays which the player can Descent-style fly through the installation in, would be a fun change of pace, and would make the Charon seem more original and fun.

Campaigns are about fun, aren't they?

Finally somebody likes my idea!
I'm thinking about doing some of the star bases from Tachyon as models, but since I don't have TrueSpace, and when I make skins, they just don't want to work even though I put them as .pcx file and they only have 256 colors.

Except your adding another couple hundred polys each time you put a fighter "docked" to it.

The Charon is HUGE. Its a massive installation. Putting a small detail that only a few people are going to see is not worth, the time, effort, and performance hit.

as long as we keep them small, then it shouldn't be a problem. mine should be about as big as they need to be. But you should see my old ezboard sig! is was that pic of the apollo flying over a planet at night with an Orion.(but I added CODEDOG =RG= to the side)

In my GTII Caronte station you can make that. In fact you´ll have to do that: That´s the only way to destroy it.

I took the idea of the Shivan Comm.

I was refering to his last statment, I couldn't understand what he was saying, it sounded like he wanted to use fighter models for turrets.
