i wish other people would at least have the curtesy as i did to at least tell people that i had seen the topic of the post somewhere else.

and i think that if it was possible, that this ship should be included in the new campaigns that are in production if permission can be obtained. it lookes to be the perfect third generation cruiser in the fenris design liniage.

Except that the Aeolus was designed to replace both the Fenris and Leviathan and it does it quite nicely.

That also looks to be a high poly model.

no he seems to be talking about the liniage of terran crusers in general, so Icefire's coment is corect in that the Aeolus is the third terran cruser class.

actually, the aeolus is the one i meant that didn' fit in with the design lineage of the fenris/leviathen. it wasn't supposed to, it incorperates design theory from the new beam weapons, flak cannons, and the new vesudan design ideas that the GTVA is starting to incorperate into it new designs. and george, i wasn't talking about earth cruisers, just terran cruisers in general, butit is a good idea, it would make a great ship for the earthlings to have in the upcoming campaigns.

also, i meant third generation cruiser in the sense that it is a more direct descendant of the fenris/leviathan series, the auolus is more of a completly diferent idea in crusiers. also, when i look at the picture, i get the sense that it is quite a bit larger than the fenris/leviathan, so one might even be able to call it a heavy cruiser.

Well, the Aeolus is a threat for fighters and bombers, and maybe for some other cruisers <cough> fenris, mentu, and aten </cough> but is by no means a threat for capships.

Plus only a dozen were ever produced, so they are probably all gone now

... and will Sol have some kickass ships? Or is it the boring old Orions?

I hate them so...

well, since they only produced twelve of the auolus cruisers, which i really can't understand why that would happen, but anyway, wouldn't it stand to reason that they have been working on a design for a true replacement for the aging fenris/leviathen sereis cruisers?

also, since the auolus was so successful at going after fighters and small capships, why not downgrade its designationg to GTFG, Galactic Terran Frigate. it certainly does alot of the same jobs as real frigate do in the world today. harras enemy planes, harrass enemy ships, are too small to do any of the big jobs, but just to useful at tdoing certain jobs to be thrown away.

this new design could be placed in the cruiser slot since it is obviously more heavily armed and armored than the auolus.

Frigate is reserved for the Iceni pretty much. Its in between Corvette and Destroyer.

I figure that the first set of Aeolus cruisers were complimented with another batch. Despite not being upto snuff against capital ships, it was more than a match against fighters. Excellent convoy escort ship. I can't see it being useless anytime soon.

D00ds, d00ds! The Saphaph (sp?) class of frigates will eventually phase out the lower Cruisers. Eventually the only capital ships will be Corvettes, Frigates, Destroyers, and Juggernaughts/Dreadnoughts.

Except that your thinking on a purely power based comparison.

Cruisers are far more mobile, cheaper to produce with less crew requirements, and more flexible in roles.

You don't want or need to waste an entire destroyer, or a corvette even on protecting a convoy that would otherwise benefit from just a single cruiser.

So strategically it makes sense to have smaller vessels. Cost wise its easier to build veritable fleet of cruisers than a single destroyer.
