FRED2_Open has caused an error in user.exe
Or if I save a mission-

BAD BAD BAD!! (implied system error) Not good.
What OS do you run? It must be a problem with your OS (esp if its Win98)

Win ME.
And it works fine if I disable the mod.
The kernel32 error is rare, often FRED just kicks out without notice(saving), or-
FRED2_Open has caused an error in FRED2_Open

What's wrong with Win98?
Sure, it's slightly unstable, can't handle above 512Mb of RAM, has poor security features and gets eaten by Winamp when it's paused, but it will run any game faster than WinXP (which is what I assume your alternative is).
Anyway - what is your mod, SKYNET-011? Perhaps you put in some kind of anti-Freespace logic bomb. Does it crash with the normal FRED2?

I wouldn't quote that...
There are so many different variables on this issue, but generally XP is AT LEAST as fast as W98 in games.
Back on topic. Can you give little more info about your mod?

Something about ship limits. I put in two ships, crashes, remove one ship, works fine. But i'm not taking all the other ships out.

Oh, and the game(FS2 and FS2_Open) runs just fine with the ships. Only FRED2_Open crashes, so I can't make missions.

Have you tried using the standard FRED2, or are there literally hundreds of ships in the editor that would clog it up? (I think that they bumped up the limit for the open source version)
Sorry to knock it off topic again, but Win98 is faster than WinXP. 3DMark 2001 says otherwise, but I can run UT, I-War 2 and Battlezone 2 (the three main games that I have tested on WinXP Pro and Win98) at higher detail settings on Win98 than I run them on WinXP with the same performance. WinXP does run games with more stability - Outcast refuses to work on Win98 and I-War 2 will crash after about 3 hours of uninterrupted flight time on Win98, whereas it is fine on WinXP.
