If you were to make B5 represntetive of the world today, who would be who? And why?

Are the nations of the former Soviet Union comparable to the Drakh? Can the US be the Centauri? Who'd be the Narn then?

Some people speculated a while back that although the relative strengths of the B5 powers might not match the countries of today, the styles of the races certainly reflect some countries today

EA = USA
Minbari = Chinese/Russian
Centauri = French/British
Narn = Asian/African counties

my personal opinion says there are hardly any similarities what so ever...

I think the Minbari might fit with Chinese religion, but could you explain the why, please. The why of it is quite important.

I do agree with the Narn though, they've all been screwed sideways by the west for hundreds of years.

Narn=african and asian nations

...then they screwed us...then they screwed themselves...
Angola mozambique guinea zimbabue sierra lione, Zaire (congo) Ruwanda, argentina (screwed by spanish, spanish got screwed by them then british screwed argentina and later argentina screwed itself! ) indonesia... etc etc. Few exceptions: Brazil, east Timor (screwed by indonesians, these last screwed by us and themselves in recent years )
South africa is a tad more complicated, it was screwed by many european countries, during the apartheid, whose elements are now part of its hole national population that are on they way to screw themselves if the kiling, crime, violence, corruption and terror doesnt stop.

Ok, the Narn can be any oppressed group who, if they had the firepower would go on a big time revenge trip.

Maybe the American Indian Movement. Actually, if you look at what happened to the Aztecs (not that they were cery nice people by any measure), Cortez comes in, like a god out of one of their prophecies, they treat him as such, and pretty soon, well you know the rest. Sound like the Narn?

Starkiller, maybe for you over in the civilized world there can be no comparisson, but here in the US where we have the Homeland Security Administration, things are looking more and more Orwellian. Which is of course one of the things JMS was trying to point out.

The EA is very USA in style - it was written by a (team of) Americans so is obviously going to be based on their ideals.

I like the Centauri comparison with Britain! We once had an empire that ruled the world (25% of the land mass of the world was ruled by the British Empire) but the Empire has diminished and we are just coming to terms with that. The comparison however falls slightly flat with the Drakh/Shadow/Vorlon storylines. So far we have picked our allies and been relatively unharmed (so far!).

I would say that the Narn are more equivalent to the African rather than Asian countries. Countries like Zimbabwe and Uganda have been subjugated for a long time before gaining their independence. However the vacuum of power has meant that somebody has tried to fight back too hard and lost a lot of the socioeconomic gains that have been made previously.

I have to say that a third world war could change this picture significantly. The Britain/France:Centauri comparison could become true if Europe took major losses and the USA could emerge relatively unscathed by staying neutral and not concerning themselves too much with the rest of the world's problems. This could then lead to internal problems with too much power available.
